I've used AVG for years, but as most of you may know, AVG has changed their privacy policies since Oct 15. I'm quite pleased with them being open about it, but I'm in no way interested in continuing to use their service as long as they collect everything from browsing history to metadata.

At this point I want a free alternative in the time being before I decide to purchase one, so I'd like to hear your opinion guys, of course having decent performance and operation but keep in mind, privacy is key, along side not being spammed with adverts for their product constantly.

I'll most likely pick something in Blackbirds pinned topic, but I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks guys

I use Microsoft's built-in anti virus for windows 10 and it is sufficient and free. When I need to do periodic anti malware scans, I use Malwarebytes' software which is also free.

Norton has been good to me.... no issues with it for me. but of course its not free. lol

I'm sure the freebees work fine. just use malwarebytes and adware programs from time to time and some of the free rootkit scans. NPE and custom scan in malwarebytes.

Sorry but I've never been a fan of Norton, never going back there :p

Thanks Scout, I'll be sure to look into it more.

Still open to suggestions tho.

For free antivirus, I use Bitdefender. They receive high praise for the fully fledged product and they claim that their free version is also as good. Another program which I use is Panda Anti-Virus which typically performs very well in testing. Links below:

So I've downloaded Bitdefender (Free). Now, perhaps I don't know how to open the full settings or whether it even has them, such as AVG, where you would choose specific areas or HDDs to scan, what speeds, etc etc. Can someone inform me about this?

Otherwise, I might have to go over to Avast instead since it seems very barebone.

+1 scout.

Thanks everyone, I've decided to go with Avast, since it's extremely customizable and you can opt-out when it comes to certain features that may invade privacy.
