I asked a similar question to this earlier but now I need some help identifying a proper replacement as I'm completely clueless and don't want to buy something incompatible. I'm running an old 1996 Sony STR-D665 receiver and the non-tweeter portion of my SS-AV22 speakers are going bad and have a noticeable vibrating/rattling noise on deeper frequencies. I'm confident I can replace the 6.5" speaker portion with no problems but I haven't a clue what I need to be looking for in regards to components that will actually work. The best I could find that was the right size, didn't have a built-in tweeter, and was the same Ohms as my receiver was this (though the wattage is way lower than what I have):

Would this be a valid option? What would happen if I got one of those speakers with an existing tweeter and my speakers already have a functioning tweeter? Is there a better option anyone could suggest or give me more guidance on what I absolutely need to look for & avoid in a replacement piece?

Thanks in advance for guiding an audio newbie!

You aren't going to find the specs on the Sony woofers anywhere so you can try to match them. Fortunately they aren't that well designed so just about any 6.5" woofer with the same impedance will work fine. You can check https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/welcome.php
or
www.parts-express.com
for info on replacement speakers.
It will be helpful to know the size of the opening the woofer has to fit and it's impedance if it's marked on the back of the woofer. You should replace the woofer in both speakers so they match.
Just like car tires, you want things to be "balanced."

Unless you are dropping a direct replacement, direct as in OEM, same part# etc, you want the same driver on both L+R.

Honestly ANYTHING other than original is going to change what the speakers were designed for. There is no guarantee the end result, you dropping non-original drivers, is going to perform, until you have everything hooked up.

There are books, libraries, entire dissertations of what goes inside a speaker enclosure and for you to figure out. I don't see many DIY speakers folks in this forum. Here, I see more hookup (wiring) posts.
