Replay Suggestions?

Hey everyone,

I may have asked this before...

I am getting board with the shows I am recording and I don't know what else
there is to watch, is there any service, add-on or website remote hosted
service that allows you to setup a list of shows you like so they can give
you suggestions and such?

Thanks,
Chris

If you know a phrase in the title or description, there's always the
Replay's ability to search for shows. If you don't know about that,
you haven't looked around the menu system. This is doing what that
"service" would. It can even record them for you (theme channels,
which don't deserve to be so ignored).

It's a good idea to look over the schedule occaisionally, to check for
new things. Note that DVArchive allows you to customize the schedule
even more, showing only the channels you care about.

I skip every and all commercials. That one feature alone made the
replaytv a worthwhile purchase. If you want to read, then put
replaytv on pause and read as much as you want. When done reading,
then simply unpause it and go back to watching commercial free TV.

I just set up themes for shows I am waiting to see. If I am looking for
Casablanca I set up a theme with that in the title and one day it will appear.
Same with any shows you used to watch and are gone now. Just be sure to allow
enough time.

Understandable, but consider that you don't know everything. I want it
that way (during the commercials).

And never know what you're missing. You actually get useful
information from some commercials.

Also, some of the commercials are ads for upcoming shows. You often
get ideas that way (something else you miss when you skip
commercials).

That's true, and I do scan the schedule of channels that are likely to have
something I'm interested in, but it's also kinf of nice to have a quick look
at what 4-star, or comedy (or whatever) movies are playing.

What would be really nice is a more advanced search feature. If I could
serach for, say, all movies on HBO that are of the genre (Sci-Fi OR Drama OR
Comedy) rated at two stars or better where the director is Robert Wise, that
would be nice.

This is true, Other than the PEE WEE Herman AFLAC ads (Which are
annoying to no end) I do not often commercial skip, instead I use mental
ad-block (I just do not pay attention to them at all) but I have fond a
few new shows to set up the replay for by them... And a few more via the
list on the SF-LIt forum

Lovely box the Replay, I can tell it to record a show that is not yet
even listed... And it will

Yes. I currently have 61 theme channels on my Replays (devided between
2 units). Some are for shows that aren't on at this time (and weren't
when set up). I'll get a pleasant suprise sometime, when one of those
comes on and gets recorded.

But the information content per time invested is way too low to bother
with. Way too low.

And I'll skip the "male enhancement" ads. I get tierd of the
evasiveness. Maybe they shouldn't be allowed to advertise something
without saying what it actaully IS.

Then there's PBS pledge drives. They're like some of the worst
commercials, but more endless.

And now the big one (TBN), although that's not so hard to skip since
the whole channel is an ad.

OH yes, if you have EVER forgotten to program your VCR to pick up
episode one of the season ... You gotta LOVE the Replay... I programed
Alias, 24 and numbers long before they were on the air

I think that's Gilbert Gottfried who played Iago the Parrot in the
Disney's Aladin movies.

And I think he supposed to be annoying.

Yup. Very, very little signal to noise ratio in the commercials. Life
is too short. That's why we have ReplayTV...

Seriously, if Mark were truly of that mindset, he wouldn't have a
Replay--because imagine the things you get to see when you have to
wander around the channels aimlessly, taking what they want to give you
when they want to give it. All sorts of things come on that you
wouldn't have chosen, but would have found interesting since you were
"forced" to watch it.

But now, with Replay, he misses those things. Except for the
commercials, of course...

In days of old when folks were bold and Dr. Who was being broadcast

Some of those pledge drives were the best part of the local PBS
station's programming. (I should know. I was in studio)

We had a lot of fun and I understand there was quote a bit of
competition amongst the "Talent" for our slot.

I also know that more than once we saved the station's budget

But alas..... They still dropped Dr. Who

They (pledge drives) do have some intreresting moments. However,
they're biased (have to get the begging in there...). They also mess
up schedules.

I would have contributed to PBS if they'd leave you alone. I know
someone who did send money, it took them a long time to quit bothering
her by phone. That kind of thing is why I never sent them any.

>But alas..... They still dropped Dr. Who

Yes, and before I got DVD-R.
