The interface of [the] iPad could work well for us," said Muhammet Demirbilek, an assistant professor of educational technology at Suleyman Demirel University. "We use our hands instead of a keyboard or mouse

Strange i always use my hands when operating the keyboard and mouse.

Rather than iPads making their owners smarter, I believe after owners realize how much money they wasted on these things, it actually makes them sadder but wiser.

Testing on 150 people does not substantiate their point.Every person has his own way of finding what he wants and how he wants what he's looking for.

Didn't you know? Ipad can also cure cancer, beat up school ground bullies, butter your toast, fix your erectile dysfunction, turn you into a genius pianist and racecar driver all at the same time! Swan dive!

what if i go on facebook with my ipad?...am i just stagnating?...better then getting dumb
But imo the fact that apple interface is so simplified (thats why my mom can use it) doesn't present a challenge, you don't learn anything cuz your just pushing nice pictures on a screen...hows does that make me smarter then working on a pc...which everyday i learn something new, or new ways to do the same thing...which i think makes me smarter because it opens my mind to tackling problems differently unlike the ipad which is very limited a 2year old or a grand ma

"the iPad interface looks easier for us, because it has larger-size text and bigger icons. It is less likely to cause cognitive overload to the user, based on my studies."

So I guess this hearkens back to when we were 1-2 and playing with toys that had a Blue Circle a Yellow Square and a Green Triangle, press them and play music. Because easier to understand means you learn better??? Yeah maybe when you are that damn young. I guess it sucks that all that research I did on Magnetohydrodynamic Electrical Power Generation online caused cognitive overload and I was made dumber by viewing complicated web pages with complicated info and used my hands to manipulate and keyboard and mouse rather than touch a screen to emulate a keyboard and mouse.....makes sense to me.

So... what you're saying is that the ability to access unlimited amounts of information any time we want at the blink of an eye is making us dumber?Riiight.

While access to information is not a bad thing, it is the process of obtaining that information which I believe builds intelligence. There are certain situations where it is best to be able to get basic facts and be able to come to your own conclusion instead of having the answer given to you. The closest analogy I can find to this is learning math. You can memorize the answers for any given set of problems, but when the same formula is presented to you in a different format, you will not be able to work it out on your own. If a person is spoon fed everything, then yes, I believe it makes people dumber

lets say eating at a fine dining restaurant is the internet, the keyboard and mouse are the knife and fork. so you're trying to say the guy eating with his hands is smarter then the guy eating with utensils? go figure
