[citation][nom]hollowtek[/nom]It's a car manufacturing facility; what the hell would they raid it for? Drugs and prostitutes? I hardly think that's the case![/citation]

I heard they stuffed crack in the brakes, /Sarcasm

[citation][nom]mcg75[/nom]Hey Lineworker, I actually drive a Honda. But I'm not dumb enough to think that a company built for profit will always have my best interest at heart. Blame domestic companies all you want, the fact is Toyota has been like them all along. They were just better at hiding it till now.[/citation]

So what point are you trying to make? That you hate all for-profit companies?

What a useless rage post...

[citation][nom]symetrixpc[/nom]Wish I had the money right now to get a toyota. I'm honestly not that worried about the recall issues and I could use it as leverage to get it cheap. oh well.[/citation]
Yup. Imo, you probably have a MUCH greater chance of getting hit by a drunk driver than getting killed by an accelerating car. At any rate people are just stupid. Put it on neutral and bring it to a slow stop! Also, the media is overhyping this and blowing it out of proportion.

[citation][nom]mcg75[/nom]Toyota is getting exactly what they deserve. Anybody who thinks the US government is doing this because of GM is a moron. Toyota put profit ahead of people's lives. They admitted that in front of congress. I just don't see how anyone with an ounce of common sense has anything other than contempt for Toyota at this point. Make no mistake, they are in the game for your money by any means possible.[/citation]
Hmm.... last time I checked, insurance companies care more about profit than covering people's insurances properly....

PS: correction to my previous post: "getting killed by an *accidentally* accelerating car.

Toyota wanted to be the biggest car company in the world like the big 3 in the US, well with the anti-trust, recalls and bad media i guess they are just like the big 3 afterall except for ford, ford is untouchable...

Does anyone remember the article about how some stoves could be set off with some cell phones. My guess is that the evil corporation with their app heavy cell phone made an app that accelerates Toyota cars ;)... Must be in bed with the American car manufactures.

For all you conspiracy theorist about the federal government helping the big 3 and taking down Toyota try to think more down to earth. Not everyone is evil. I am not saying it is impossible I'm just saying that its Improbable. I am not a brand loyalist. I have never owned a Toyota. I don't think they are getting more attention just because they are Toyota. Firestone may have killed 2 people or whatever you say but who knows how many died because there breaks didn't engage before there was even a recall. Give Toyota a break but don't blame the big 3 or the federal government just because there easy targets.

It's a question of whether or not the federal government could possibly remain neutral with so much on the line with GM. Would it be fair to have Mark Cuban hiring referees to officiate Mavericks basketball games? No, it's a conflict of interest. The federal government has no business owning any private companies or competing with private companies yet here they are and because of it the question is being raised as to whether they are acting in the best interests of us, the consumers, or the best interests of GM.

News flash. We shouldn't be having this discussion in the first place. It's a serious problem that the federal government has an ownership in GM. Serious problem.

And actually on the topic, this is going to get worse for Toyota. One of the exec's for the US went on record today stating that they weren't sure if they had fixed all of the sudden acceleration problems. He also went on record stating that there was an electrical issue that could potentially cause unintended acceleration regardless of what gear you were in (even reverse) and, although would require extreme conditions to trip, is possible to re-produce. The re-call is going to eventually be expanded, Toyota is going to get destroyed by lawsuits (38 dead so far), and Toyota sales are going to flat line. They haven't hit rock bottom yet but they will.

I will probably buy Toyota stock once this ship hits the ocean floor. They won't be down forever and it'll probably be a great buy.

[citation][nom]kingnoobe[/nom]Just to add a bit more. I'd rather have my accelator stick *mm neutral+turn off engine=win*,* brakes sluggish .. Then have my tire tread fly off while driving down the road. Just saying...[/citation]You do realize that in a modern computer controlled vehicle, you might not be able to turn off the engine OR put it in neutral, right? Software handles shifting, acceleration, etc. You're only feeding it suggestions.

As far as your sluggish brakes, that can be just as deadly as tire tread seperation. Especially given that when you end up in a panic stop situation (accident occurs up ahead, some lunatic cuts someone off, etc), you really need them to perform correctly. A delay could cost lives. Both Ford and Firestone took a lot of flack over the tread seperation issue, and it only occured on one chassis (both companies were at fault, by the way).

Also: If you're in traffic or in a parking lot and the throttle opens up and stays open, you may not have time to do much about it. I'm man enough to admit that if my engine roared, tires smoking, all I could do while caught by surprise would be to nail the brakes. That may or may not be enough to buy me time to try and do something else that will hopefully work.

Oh and if you can't put it into neutral, but you CAN turn the engine off, there goes your power steering and your power brakes. Hope you're not headed into a turn at a good speed, and I hope your e-brakes work (and work well) at those speeds. Normally e-brakes are only strong enough for a little drift work and to keep you from rolling down a hill. :)

Okay everyone... This FBI raid is totally unrelated to Toyota's recall issues.

The three Japanese part suppliers are under investigation for "Anticompetitive cartel conduct". The investigation is being conducted in cooperation with an investigation by the European Commission and other foreign authorities.

THERE IS NO CONSPIRACY HERE... It is fairly common knowledge in international business that Japanese corporations form very close partnerships with each other. Often these relationships are used to gain unfair advantage. In some cases, these practices can become questionable in the eyes of international law.

this is stupid, they have recalled the vehicles and doing their best. toyota will do just fine, they have nothing to worry about, remember they still have the scion, lol. if they don't sell any of the more expensive models they will sell the cheaper ones. the big 3 can kiss everyone's arse. they are jealous because the are not doing as good as the other car manufacturers in the world.

The fact is that Toyota has major problems with their quality and has killed people because of it and anyone trying to brush it away like it is not important obviously isn't considering the fact that if it happened to one of your loved ones! What has the world come to when a company can put out a product that has killed people and then rush to their defense as if they have done nothing wrong and it is all just a plot from the government or some competitor. So I would like to say that anyone here trying to defend Toyota is a complete idiot is everything that is wrong with the world today. I am glad that the government is stepping in to put an end to this nonsense and hope the arrogance of Toyota falls along with it.

I'd say my instructor in my hybrid vehicles class put it best.

"They are FUCKED"

Him and his family drive Toyotas and have been satisfied with them.

All of the big car manufacturers have issued massive recalls in the past totaling in the tens of millions of cars.

Do you have any idea how much engineering goes into a vehicle... If 1000 vehicles show a common defect it sounds like a big number, but really lets think about it for a second...

1000 cars have a common issue of say 8 million cars sold, thats a 0.02% failure rate... 99.98% haven't had the issue, yet the manufacturer has to recall every single car they've ever sold with that part in it.

In any other industry recalls such as this would be unimaginable.

The safety engineered into cars these days regardless of the manufacturer is amazing, you can only test a product so much before you release it to the public. Otherwise cars would cost $500,000 each and take 20 years to enter the market.

You're probably 100 times more likely to crash your car due to driver error than crash due to a manufacturing defect.

Toyota isn't the largest auto manufacturer. In regards to sale volumes they are the 5th largest behind GM, Ford, Honda, and Chrysler. The defect in Toyotas is nothing Congress should get involved in. I question Congress' motives if they are holding hearings on the matter. The defect in Toyotas is a defect in all 5 of the large automanufacturers. Toyota is the only one who has recalled over it.
Toyota having problems won't help the Big 3 American Automakers. Their problem isn't sales, its manufacturing costs. Unless they sell cars in the green it doesn't matter how many they sell they will still be in the red.
The real difference in this matter is that Toyota is one of the few foriegn automakers that has plants in the US, and they don't use Union workers. The UAW doesn't like that. However, if congress somehow tries to force Union labor in Toyota plants, Toyota will most likely move the plants into Canada unemploying alot of US workers.

the headline reads "Toyota Plants" but the first line says different, "Toyota suppliers". Be careful quoting headlines without reading the body.
