A none tech savvy friend of mine has ripped a load of CD's to his hard drive using I-tunes, under windows 8.

He's looking to copy this library to another machine rather than rip all the CD's again, He'd ideally like to use something different than i-tunes to play back.

I have not used i-tunes myself, what format does i-tunes rip CD's to by default and what directory does it save to?

If its something I-tunes specific or protected can I get software to export?

iTunes is the best program out there for your music. The quality music is great when you use to rip your CD's (256 kbps M4A, better than MP3 320 kbps).
