I have just purchased and installed my second ReplayTV device. My
problem is I cannot get local stations to play through the ReplayTV
unit. Here are the details of my setup.

When switching to a local channel like 5 (NBC) or any local channel
the previous satellite channel still plays

Sat. box is DirecTV with serial input control.

ReplayTV 5500 using SVideo input and output (audio cables L/R in and
out).

Satellite channels are displayed fine including sound.

Satelite and local channels (ANT) are fed from separate coaxial
cables.

The local channel coaxial cable is attached to ‘In from ANT/CATV'.

ReplayTV inputs are IN 2 = DirecTV and ANT/CATV = local broadcasters
for 750xx (my zip code).

I am using Internet programming input.

I have verified that the local channel ANT feed is good.

My previous ReplayTV Showstopper worked fine with the setup above
(until it's hard drive failed).

I hope someone can shed light on this problem. I am aware that one
option is to have my SAT company feed local channels via SAT however
that is an additional expense I was trying to avoid.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Please correct that MAJOR OMISSION. WHAT did you do (I'd guess you
pressed '5' followed by 'enter') and WHAT happened when you did that
(note that there will be a delay if you skip 'enter')? Providing this
information can make it a lot easier to help.

What channel ranges are being used for each? Based on what you're
saying below, you don't have locals on sat. In that case, sat uses
channel numbers from 70 up (note that this excludes the range used for
terrestrial broadcast, 70-99 are HD and you probably don't get them.
but they do affect the channel mappings). If your cable is limited to
2-69 it should be mapped to this range. It will be 1002-up if not
(2002-up if you're using IN1 too). My cable was at 2-61 until I got
sat. locals, then it changed to 2002-2061. Check your guide.

I used to use S-video, but the quality improvement wasn't much, and
the connectors are less secure (knocked out easily, a significant
annoyance) so I went back to composite (yellow RCA connector).

That sounds like my setup (except the S-video bit).

Are you sure your replay is set up properly for this? Check your
'channel guide' for those cable channels. Also, you can select a
channel from the guide.

I have DirecTV, and the expense is now $3/month (additional charge for
locals). I still have the basic cable ($11/month) since it's required
to have cable internet (works well, satellite internet does not).

The local channels are appearing in the 1000 range. Thanks for your help.

I wish the Replay allowed control of that. I have both line inputs
setup (DirecTV and a fake source to make manual recording easier), so
the RF input uses 2xxx channel numbers.

BTW, DVArchive does let you control this, but effectively it doesn't,
since it works best when setup the same as the Replays.
