So, sounds like a rehash of the Xbox 360, if these "rumors" are remotely true, I don't know why Nintendo is saddling itself with old tech used by a competitor. why not at least go with a R9xx series gpu as at least these are up to date and could do stereo scopic 3d where the old 7 series wasn't designed for it.....

Yeah I don't want to buy things made by workers treated so poorly they start jumping off roofs. Nintendo should find another manufacturer to keep some blood off Mario's hands for a change.

R700? That means the graphic power is similar to Radeon 4870. That is still way too low. So, a next gen console doesn't even have the power of a last gen GPU (considering GF100 and R800 as the last gen). Seriously, console makers are holding the entire gaming industry back.

"Perhaps the most interesting part is the possibility that two people playing a game on the console could be using different remotes at the same time."

I kinda giggled at this.

I hope they use better hardware than this. Why is Nintendo always trailing behind in the hardware department. Nintendo used to be a leader, now they only choose to follow and fall behind M$ and $ony. Maybe they should change their name to No-Can-Do since they can't come up with anything decent. 1080p pfft that's so 10 years ago.

Since Sony hit the console scene Nintendo has taken the moral high ground of providing better games for a friendly price basing this strategy off kick ass games that people want and would play. Only problem is their childish games SUCK. This isn't the 90's, unfortunately Nintendo has failed to realize this and instead caters only to the Spongebob kiddies without even a grain of adult or mature oriented content.

1080p is all they need for the living room, these things are meant to be played on TV's, not expensive PC monitors that very few people have.

I still think the screen controller is a gimmick that won't go anywhere important though. All it will do is needlessly make the thing more expensive.

If you buy electronics, you most likely have a lot of things built by Foxconn.
Sony and Microsoft both use Foxconn to manufacture their consoles and other products as well

hardware sounds ok. it has all the cpu a game developer can need and a GPU that is a couple times more powerful then xbox and ps3 and it supports SM4.1 so goodbye DirectX9c

The choice of hardware was probably to get developers (that have been working on X360 for the past 5 years) to jump on board to the Wii2. Also, similar hardware would mean less costs by the studios when they port it over.

You are ignorant. it's OK. There are many people that don't realize the size of Nintendo. Maybe you need to educate yourself on who is dominating the gaming market (http://www.vgchartz.com/)

Remember consoles get x20 the amount of performance from their gpu than PC's due to optimisation. The HD4870 was just about capable of 1080p, with developers tweeking game for the hardware, this should be more than capable.
The reason they are trailing is so they will keep costs down and probably refresh the hardware more frequent rather than be locked into some insane 10year upgrade cycle. Look how often the DS is refreshed

"Why don't they use the latest GPU available for PCs!" Because this isn't a PC, it's a console Don't like it, stick to PC. Nintendo isn't going to make a $600+ system. More recent hardware increases the price tag, and they want to sell it as cheap as possible. Their priority is trying to innovate with things like the controller or rumored projector, not to be a media player or graphics engine. You may not like it, but it works for them and makes them money.

They don't need to do anything over 1080p, consoles are made to play on TVs. Even doing 3D would be a stretch, considering they decided not to go HD with the Wii in a time when HD was as common as 3D is now.

And as far as "kiddie games", it's usually only the kiddies that are concerned with trying to get M rated games so they can look cool. Plenty of adults with 6 figure salaries come home to play Mario and Pokemon. If that doesn't satisfy you, then read the article on how Rockstar is interested in the new Nintendo system. Oh, and this is also the company that brought out Conker's Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark, and No More Heroes.

AMD R700 is not 4870 is more like 4830...
Probably manufacturing cot will be less than $100 and purchase price will be $400.
Thats how you make money, by overpricing old tech.

Are you guys really surprised Nintendo isn't using the most cutting edge hardware? The Wii, DS, and 3DS are all indications they don't care about that. And at least two of those were runaway successes, whether or not us hardcore users like it or not. Wait for Sony or MS to put out a next gen console, I'd think it would be more on par with modern GPU's and CPU's.
