And some people will never understand that I wasn't disagreeing with

Phill makes some comment about "We'er oging to take a break now for some
commericials....Welcome back to our show...

Just about that fast

She was sold

That's pretty much how it is for 85%-90% of the stuff I watch.

I'm VERY happy to suffer through the remaining 10% where it doesn't
work, given that I have nice alternate tools like QS and Instant Replay.

I spoke with them (Digital Network, or if you like Replay) about a
biling issue (Changing from monthly to lifetime) and they informed me
that they are no longer transfering lifetime subscriptions.

They will... However.... Fix your old unit

After a while you get to know which shows will work with CA.
American Idol works every time, like most other shows.
It's just a few that don't work, or work roughly.
I don't mind switching CA off if the show isn't co-operating.

Anyone notice some shows end late, so you miss the last couple
minutes? It doesn't bother me, but the networks must be trying to
conter act digital recording.

There is the "showguard" option at adds 5 minutes to a recording if
there's no show scheduled after this one. Enabling it is complex, and
involves WiRNS, but at least it stays once set. I enabled it a few
months ago and it's still working.

It helps keep you from missing the last bit of a show.

Here I am, the OP. Of course, I like CA. I also realize that it works
most of the time, but sometime misses commercials (particularly if they
are longer than 3 minutes) and sometimes skips things it shouldn't.

That being said, I wonder what leverage I had to get a nice 5040 back,
when I sent them an out-of-warranty unit. Since they are not presently
selling them, they said that they didn't have any in stock. Since the
unit is out-of-warranty they could have said they would do nothing.

Alas, rules vary from state to state so I can't tell you what legal
remides you have other than "Call a Lawyer"

But I would suggest you contact them and advise them that they returned
a different unit than the one you sent in, Perhaps they will be willing
to send you the proper unit back.. and of course pay the return postage
for the one they sent you "by mistake"

Take the "I think you may have made a mistake" route

I miss the trailers on ALIAS most every week,, What bothers me more than
it ending a bit late is it starting a bit late though... That way if
there is any conflict on the "record this" list... The other show wins

Of course... I record ALIAS with a different recorder so it does not
matter (and I should get replay #3 in a day or two)

I found it from reading the AVSforum. You can do the same. Try

So what is Replay #3? Did you buy a 50xx off Ebay or take advantage of the
deeply discounted 55xxs from ReplayTV? I've been contemplating adding a
third, too. I love my two 5040s.

Regards,

Margaret

You watch it. When it doesn't work, it either skips:

A) Not enough. You see a commercial. Well, then you're no worse off,
are you? So just manually quick skip.

B) Too much.

Case 1: Starts skip too early. You just jump back. The jump back skips
over the commericals, too, so you probably only have to press it once or
twice. Then, while it's playing, turn C/A off, and manually skip.

Case 2: If it skips into the middle of a scene -- and it's pretty easy
to detect -- then press C/A OFF (to avoid the above), and jump back a
bit. I don't even realize I'm doing it, it's so automatic.

How to tell? You learn the patterns. Most shows when they come back
from commerical do not jump right into the middle of a scene or dialog.
There's usually a few seconds of an establishing shot.

....And if B) happens too much, you turn it off.

Deeply discounted 5504

Now all I have to do is figure out how to feed it (I'm running out of
antennas)
