Hi I am planning to purchase Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2012 edition. I just want some clarification on whether I will have problems with android updates or is this 'out of date' in terms of updates and apps.

Hi,
Even though Samsung is not going to update the note 10.1 2012 tablet. You can use Blisspop ROM at blisspoprom.com to take it to android 5.1.1 this will require you to root the tablet. But that I s a piece of cake to do.

It's actually fairly easy to install a custom or slimmed down touch wiz rom to these devices . I have the Note 10.1 2014 LTE (P607T) and just upgraded from Kit Kat 4.4 to 5.0.2 lollipop touch wiz rom that was ported from the Galaxy Note Pro. Just go over to XDA developers and look for your particular device and find your tablet model and see if there are any compatible roms available for your device. This will probably void your warranty but I'm guessing most of us don't care.

Hi, ı have Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition, and samsung didn't give android l. It came with android 4.3, but Samsung just gave one update ( android 4.4.2, even not 4.4.4 ) in 2 years. Look even 2014 edition got one update, so that do not wait any updates for 2012

What a complete and utter lie. Anyone with an iPhone 4S/iPad 2 (both released in 2011) can update to the latest version of iOS 9.2.1 (released 2016). My Galaxy 10.1 Note (released in 2012) is still in in 4.1.2 (released in 2012). Sad, isn't? My next tablet is an iPad.

I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition, and while I have been happy with it for the past year and a half or so, the short life span assigned by Samsung is insane. For the price of this thing it is not unreasonable to expect it to last 5 years or so. Furthermore, given that it it straight up Samsung (no LTE, no carrier) it should be getting updates on a schedule similar to Nexus devices. I'm not going to go crazy and switch to Apple, but Samsung is dead to me. My next tablet will be a Surface, and my next phone may be from Microsoft as well, or maybe Google. These things cost way too much for a 2 year lifespan.

I spent almost $600 dollars on this tablet and while I do like the device-- It really irks me that in three years there has been one update, and now when you go to the website and check 'My Devices' the GTN8013 is 404 file not found on all its links. No more support on a $600 machine thats only 2 years and 6 months old to be exact. Never again will I spend that much on a tablet that doesnt even have LTE.

Even if you found that.....Theyre all going to Marshmallow and I don't even have KitKat yet, hell not even Lollipop 4.2.2. 2.5 years with one update is something i would expect from LG or Huwai.

it more hardware compatibility too. android are bad at that, too much freedom from the manufacturer to customize.

its actually not that hard to do manually, I just can't get it to work, probably because I have the 32gb variant or my cable is messed up since I have to plug it in to my pc to do it. I'd actually love if Samsung would drop it right now lol

I totally agree with sam. I have the note 10.1 and it has been forgotten. I wont buy another samsung tablet because they dont keep their devices update in anyway. You can put custom roms on it but if they do happen to update it you will not be able to get them.

Better look again because samsung has not put out an update over 4.1. I have linked my model number N8013 to samsung kies and it say its all up todate. I've looked in to updating myself but most are very buggy and not worth the time put in to do it.

I have a N8013(samsung note 10.1) I never really cared about updates and such, but I wanted a game for my son that requires android 4.4+ , It only had 4.1.2 and it all up to date. contacted samsung live chat. Below is the transcript. TL: DR No updates for note 10.1 past 4.1.2. BUT start hitting up the live chat people, and maybe samsung will listen eventually.

Chat Transcript
info: Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
info: You are now chatting with 'Naveen'. The reference number for this chat is 4344525732.
Naveen: Hi, thank you for reaching out to Samsung technical support. How may I assist you?
Visitor: I want to know if/how to update my tablet to android 4.4+. it is currently running 4.1.2
Visitor: Model number is GT-N8013
Naveen: I understand that you are trying to update the software on your Galaxy Note 10.1. Let me check the required information for you.
Naveen: I apologize, but I see that the latest software on this model is v4.1.2. There are no new updates for GT-N8013.
Visitor: are there supposed to be anymore software updates anytime soon?
Naveen: There is no information on future updates for this model.
Naveen: However, we will take this as a feedback. We always appreciate the ideas and suggestions of our customers and strive to improve our products.
Naveen: Can I help you with anything else?
Visitor: No problem, you should really consider looking at the forums. there's a lot of grumbling about there being no updates for these samsung models, particularly since android 6(marshmallow) has been released and this and other models haven't seen updates for 3 or more years. people are talking about not buying samsung tablets and even dissuading others from buying them because of these types of issues
Visitor: no, thank you though. just wanted the update so my son could play a game
Visitor: have a wonderful day

Hi Grillan. I tried updating my Note 10.1 through Kies, however, I was only able to update the firmware to the 4.0.4 android version. How were you able to update yours to the 4.4.2 version?
