I have just acquired a Samsung P5085. (Not because it was top rated by
Consumers reports, but, by large measure, comments read in this group.
Delighted with it, although a little irked at some of its odd quirks. (Not
all inputs will PIP, and in fact any kind of digital input - component, DVI
etc.) has very limited adjustments.
Nut some newbie questions.
I have an Expressvu 6120 HD sat receiver. (Same as the Dish TU-DP811), and
its setup reuires setting the HDTV output settings from 480p, 720p, and
1080i.
Although I have been enjoying superb quality, I discovered last night that
the box was set to 480p!
I had assumed that the Samsung was infact a 720p set, so I reset the sat box
to 720p and I think (!!!) it looks better - (but having watched American
Idol in (apparently) 480p I was amazed at the quality except for 2 or 3
cameras they use that are either very badly out of wack, or SD cameras up
converted, (most of the B-cameras).
The Samsung has an ID button which, among other things, provides data on the
input (i.e. 720 x 480 for SD stuff, and now, 1280 x 720 now for HD content.
Being curious I reset the sat box to 1080i. Sure enough the info button
reported input signals at 1920 x 1080 . Try as I may I couldn't see any
difference!
My question is...what setting do I use, and what does the Sammy actually
use!
While I'm at it, the manual provides very limited data for remote control
codes.
Anyone have a working code for Dish network, Directv (Hughes or Toshiba),
and a JVC VCR!!!!!
Any help would be a boon!
