Solved! Samsung to Yamaha audio connection

I am trying to connect a Samsung UN32M4500 to a Yamaha RX-V383. I have an HDMI connection between the TV's HDMI/ARC port and tho receiver's HDMI1. I get nothing.

The TV's on-screen audio options only mention a digital audio option, but the receiver has on digital audio port.

Any help solving this problem is greatly appreciated.

The TV HDMI-ARC connects to the receiver HDMI output not an input. Check the receiver manual on how to turn on ARC.
You may also have to turn the TV speakers off.
ARC eliminates the need for the optical connection but doesn't sound any better so you can use the optical connection.

Thanks. I finally got it sorted out. It was frustrating with my new HD TV having worse sound quality than my 20 year old analog set!
