Screen Won't Come Out of Sleep

Hi, I have a laptop that if I inadvertently let go to sleep, for instance by it not being plugged in and the battery flattening, then when I try to start it up the screen stays off. No matter what I do I can't get it back on - I have even removed the memory, HDD and the battery and that doesn't work. Bizarrely if it is left for about a day it works fine. Any ideas? The laptop is an Alienware M17x on Win 10.

Edit: Extrenal screens work fine when attached to it when it is doing this.

Try changing the setting which switches off the hdd to never. Does the laptop come back on after you switch it off?
