I want to install a second HDD in my laptop. It has 1 HDD and 1 Optical Drive installed. I have opened it up and it uses the 'laptop SATA' connectors to connect both the HDD and Optical Drive to the motherboard. Can I replace the optical drive with a secondary HDD safely? And if so, how do I go about it (does it require any Windows/BIOS/Hardware changes)?

Hi,

The answer is yes given that there's an available HDD caddy for the model of your laptop. You'll be removing the Optical drive and will be replaced by a HDD caddy.

Here's a sample of a HDD caddy.

Is the caddy required, or is it just an enclosure? Can I attach the HDD directly to the 'laptop SATA' port (with the correct cable)?
