Sennheiser PC 350 SE poor sound quality with Asus G73 laptop

I just bought these headphones and the sound quality is really flat and not at all what they should be based on the reviews. From reading other threads in here it looks like that might be my sound card's fault - does anyone know what the sound card is in the ASUS G73 SW laptop?

And if that is the likely issue, what are my options for getting good sound from these headphones?

These headphones are 150 ohm impedance. They are not getting enough power from your integrated soundcard and that is causing the "tinny" sound. Or spend the money on a DAC and get really awesome sound.

Thanks for that! Gives me a starting point to look for options. Would just the amp be enough to make the headphones sound good? At the moment they sound worse than my $30 Logitech ones.

I have also seen things about external sound cards, is that much of the same as a DAC?

Also what should I do about the mic cable? Will the mic work if I use the adapter and plug both cables into the DAC/amp, or will I have to plug it into the mic jack and have only the audio cable plugged into the DAC/amp?
