Setting up a dedicated amp

Hi guys, I just got a brand new Pioneer VSX - 823k and I was wondering if I could setup a dedicated amp for the front and left speakers. Its a 5.1 receiver and I use it for both music and movies. I was planning to have the dedicated amp power the front speakers while the receiver powered the center and surrounds. I guess the Pioneer would be acting as a pre-amp (if that's possible). Is this possible to do with my current receiver?

Your receiver doesn't seem to have front preamp outputs so you will have to use an adapter like this to connect the amp.

Your local car stereo installer should have them too.

Will that sacrifice sound quality though? If it does I think I will just stick with my AV receiver.

Not as good as having the preouts but the amps in most surround sound receivers are pretty lousy so I would say you will still be ahead especially if your speakers need a lot of power, are a difficult load, or you like it loud.
