Should I use a Core i7 Processor for FSX?

Hello,
I need help deciding if I should stick with this CPU that on FSX gives me most of the time, under 10 frames/second, or a new Core i7. I currently have a CPU that is definitely not the best, it is a Compaq Presario PC, Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2160(or E2180, it says both in two different places)@ 2.00 GHz and a hard drive of 360 GB RAM is 2047 MB and I am currently running DX10 with a Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS. Those are my current specs. Thanks!!

I still haven't built my new pc, which will have an i7, but from what I've seen on various sites, I would go for the i7 definitely. Way faster and better performance. I think they range from 2.6 GHz to 3.3, but I'm not sure.

A better core 2 duo would help as well.
I am running a 67 or 6850 3.0G stock and all is running great.

A quad core would be a good thing but FSX really wants GHZ, so if you do get one AIM High.

Also a new Video card can help some things.
This can be installed now and used when you do get the new computer as well.

Not knowing your experience level here is a good guide to setup.
I can tell you that shadows have the biggest effect on performance.
Especially "Aircraft casts shadows on itself"

OK, thanks. I only have a pathetic 2.00 GHz Pentium Duo... Well, I don`t usually use shadows... so, I still get low frames, but sometimes when I have my Auto-Gen at Sparse, I get half decent frames, like 30 or so, but thats with low 1.x water effects and most of my settings at low. I have only 2 GB of RAM, so I don`t know if that makes a difference. Thanks!

if i was you i would safe some money and buy an good C2Q as for the i7 you would have to buy an new MB. Or if you really want an good (new) system i can also recommend the Phenom II 965 witch also needs an new MB but mostly will perform as well as an I7 if you O'C them both to 3.8 GHZ. GPU recommendation for FSX is Nvidia's 260 Core 216 or the 280.
