SL-PD887 Control panel frozen

When I turned the CD player on the LED came on, it showed CD #3 track 8, and then the CD selector LED window started flashing, but there was nothing else going on except for the flashing. None of the buttons worked and even the on/off switch wouldn't shut the thing down. It was working fine yesterday.

I took the CD player apart and found that it was just a simple broken 2 3/32" O-ring that gear drove all the internal parts. But without it none of the electronics or mechanicals would function. I went to the hardware store and they had it in the plumbing section. 75 cents.
So many of these things can be solved by visual inspection. I should have done that sooner.
