i have a desktop at home and a laptop i leave at the dorm when i visit home. is there a program i can install so i can from my home desktop, access my laptop? like without leaving it on all the time? i know there is team viewer but i have to accept from the other end. i dont want that.

Solution
In order to wake up your laptop remotely, several thinks have to be present:
- your laptop must be connected with wired Ethernet
- your laptop must support "Wake-on-Lan"
- you must have access to the router where your laptop is connected (so you can send "Wake up, buddy" Ethernet packet).

I doubt you will have access to your dorm' router, so waking up is out of question.
you can't remotely turn on a pc. But yes windows has built in software but your computer must be turned on and you must accept for the first time.

As it is free (built into the OS), and as you have both the desktop and laptop right next to you.....just try it.

yeah you can do that but you'd have to use third party app for that. try to google it..

No, teamviewer does not require you to accept on the other end. You can set up unattended access.

This is true. It is how I control my HTPC from sitting at my desk.
And having it in Startup, it automatically starts after a reboot.
