I got this camera as a gift the Christmas before last and have yet to
figure out why my pictures I take in the evening do not come out. They
look good on the small screen but when I get them developed they are
very dark and pixelated looking. And I have tried multipled places in
getting them developed, no difference. I have very little experience
with cameras and honestly have not spent too too much time fiddling
with it, so it could be something completely obvious that I am missing.
I have played around with the different themes (beach, night, etc.)
but that does not seem to help. Anybody have any ideas? They would be
very appreciated!!!

Low light is always going to be difficult. You get more noise &
posterizing that looks more pixellated. The solution is to use a tripod
or lean on a wall or something. Probably your camera is turning up the
ISO in low light conditions automatically. If you can turn that off to
keep lowest possible ISO then use longer exposures, that will look better.

Press the button with trash can while in picture taking mode. See
what resolution is. I have a feeling that you are in VGA mode.

Press the menu button, you may have to scroll left and right to see if
you are in "camera" "auto"

Reading the manual would be a good idea. I think you have a
combination of being in a low resolution mode and in program mode with
a negative exposure value offset.

What do you mean developed? You mean printed? Do they look allright on the
screen? You can do a lot of magic with software like photoshop or PSP.

Yes, I mean print. And they do look clear on the screen, but once
printed, they come out terrible, some of them very distorted looking.
There has to be something wrong with it, because I have no problems
with the pictures taken during the day, and its every single evening
picture, not just a few. Thanks for responding, any other ideas?

If the light is low the camera could be opening the shutter for as long
as 2 seconds. Did the flash fire?
