when I turn on tv, I get sound,and fan comes on,screen barely lights up, goes from black,to dark grey when unit is turned on.

Hmm try to visit some online TV repair sites. for sure you can get your answer in dealing with to your TV problem.. It depend to you either you follow my suggestion. hehe
