[citation][nom]Buffalo5C[/nom]Free for 12 months? So that means in 13 months when everyone thinks they are safe their identity will be stolen and Sony will just thumb their nose at them[/citation]

Yes

So Sony sais - "Sorry we put your house on fire - Dont worry about all your belongings, we have made a deal with a company who helps keeping fires under control for 12 months - But you only get that if you sign up with our company that put your house on fire in the first place"

Amazing how some companies seem to think their customers are total morons! /sigh!

[citation][nom]badaxe2[/nom]Lot of negative comments on this thread. Aside from the fact that anything is hackable (even if Sony had state of the art security these hackers would've gotten in), there's nothing wrong with them offering complimentary ID protection to anyone affected by this. As to why it's not free in the first place, why would identity protection services be "free"? All it is is insurance, and I've never found any free insurance. Don't understand why people continue to kick a company while its down, especially when the PS3 still has the best value overall as far as consoles are concerned. I'd like to see what Microsoft would do if Sony was out of the gaming industry. They're already indirectly ripping their customers off, whether it's through being the only online service charging people to play each other, overpriced add-ons, selling out to the casuals, etc. Then there's the fact that they continue to give the PC segment cold leftovers. How can anyone be cool with that.[/citation]

Well here those identity protection things? scam. The dude that invented it has had his identity stolen like 20 times. Second sony can shove tis ps3 up its you know where same with its psn network.Third i never saw microsoft raid someones house because they tried to run linux on the xbox. It sucks that reguler people had to get hurt over it but as far as I'm concerned sony hasnt gotten enough of what it deserves.

[citation][nom]sdeleon515[/nom] I'M VERY SORRY SONY IS MAKING IT HARDER TO PLAY PIRATED GAMES BUT TAKE YOUR WHINING AND CRYING TO KINDERGARTEN WHERE IT BELONGS! Those posts are getting old and redundant...[/citation]

So its ok to bash down someones door take everything they own and arrest them for doing what? the only thing they really had proof of was what? Modding something they baught with their money to run linux. I honestly dont pitty sony at all and i wouldnt cry if more of thier network got destroyed. next time however i just hope inocent peoples identety's arent stolen.

And i wise my rear with your lame comment. Sony isnt trying to make it harder to pirate games by those means they are making them selves a target and makeing really crappy business moves destroying their reputations. If they wanted to make piracy harder they would do it on a software hardware level. Not on a I'm going to bash down your door bs.

[citation][nom]dalethepcman[/nom] I have two words for you Sony. "Class Action."[/citation]

People do not realize what "Class Action" actually does sometimes. No matter how evil a company is, or how unfairly they treat the customers, a "Class Action" lawsuite is the worst thing for both parties. When a few plaintiffs are involved, it can be beneficial because there are not as many people to divide up the pot, but when you have millions of customers, the ending scenerio is the lawfirm (which sometimes gets 50% of the total) taking hundreds of millions of dollars from a big corporation, sometimes bankrupting them into non-existence, each of the lawyers working the case become instant mega millionaires, and the actual people who had the problem in the first place gets $10.00 cash or a voucher for a service that is no longer good anymore because the company is bankrupt and now the lawfirm has all their money. Who is the evil greedy company now????? Its a well known fact that some lawyers are constantly looking for that one case that they can sue a large company and get their Lottery ticket winnings and they don't care who they hurt.

Believe me, the only result that you will get if there is a class action lawsuite against Sony is probably not much different than what is offered here, and the end result for Sony is that they could close down their game division which will hurt milliions of subscribers.
