Love it, Agreed. I'll wait for VR headsets.

i still have to say that rather than all this 3d how about just making better more intelligent games and films.
i would rather have better content than 3d visuals

[citation][nom]welshmousepk[/nom]any PC gamer in the world could tell the difference between 720 and 1080 res. its the most glaringly obvious change you could possibly make to an image. what a stupid thing for this 'professional' to say.considering there are hardly any 1080p games out though, i don't see why this needed an announcement. we already know that 3d uses additional resources, and games need to drop down one resolution to support it. (1080p games go down to 720, and 720 to 480)so was this just in case someone makes a game at 2560 resolution? and we are all disappointed we cant use it in 3d? i understand the console gaming market is a 'simple' one, but im pretty sure this is a new level of dumb.[/citation]

The console market will always hit now all time lows. Im not even impressed anymore.

All my games run at 1920*1080 but Im a PC...

I have a 100" 1080p projector. I can tell the difference between 720 and 1080p. Much sharper with 1080. There's blurring otherwise.

I have like 8 ps3 games. I think two are 1080p. This isn't surprising at all.

Im sure a reason of limiting 3D games to 720p, the nVidia RSX (PS3 gpu) is based of two GeForces 6800 Ultra in 2-way SLI with a total of 512MB DDR3 RAM. Can a GF 6800 Ultra SLI handle game resolutions 1920x1080 at 60fps and 3D vision?? I doubt it.

it really depends on the size of the TV and how far you sit from it... like on a 32 inch, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between 720 and 1080... now say you have a 46, now if you are like 2 feet from it, i would bet you could tell a difference but i think at like and farther you cant

How come so many people run 1920X1080 (16:9) on their PC rather than 1920X1200 (16:10)? In fact so many of the widescreen monitors I see lately are advertised as 1920X1080?? I would much rather keep the 1920X1200 I have on my monitor but is that resolution starting to fade away or what? Is all the (sort of) recent craze of 1080p HD TV resolutions to blame?

basicly, yes... the 1080p LCD are HDCP compliant and supports the playing of blu-ray movies... if you play a 1080p (and even 720) on a 16:10 screen, you get letterbox

also, to my knowledge, there are no 16:10 monitors that are HDCP

That sucks so much. That's only HDCP content that will play in letterbox right? Because non HDCP HD content will play just fine and IMO games are nicer at 1200 than at 1080. HDCP is the devil.

Your definition of entertainment is interesting.
Let me guess: if you want to play a car simulation you drive around the block?

That 720p limitation seems to apply to many games on consoles anyway. In fact, I have only three games that allow for 1080. So I am not surprised, even if some games don't look demanding on the graphics chip at all and still only support 720p.

(Meanwhile I can crank my desktop HD5870 up to full 1080p and beyond in virtually any game on the PC. Then again, a good game works on 720p while a crappy game doesn't get any better by supporting 1080.)

Either way, the TV isn't 3D ready anyway so I won't have to worry about it.

yes, on a PC monitor you could see it ofc, but on a TV watching from the other side of the room.... nope, the difference from 5 meters is very very little... I prefer smoother gameplay!

If you want a cheap 3d tv 55" for $2100 with free glasses go to amazon and search samsung 3dtv. Amazon itself is selling it with free shipping

you can only really tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on larger size screens so i dont see what the fuss is about
with them dropping it down to 720p, for example i perfer my games at 60+ frames per sec and 30fps in a racing game for example or some fps is barely playable
