Then why are a lot of popular JRPG franchises that were once Sony only, also developed or being developed for the 360 now? Why is Fable, Fallout 3, Last Remnant, Star Ocean, Tales and so on, also popular on the 360?

What about action games such as DMC4, Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, GTA4 (which bonus content is being released for the 360 only), Saints Row, XBlades, Velvet Assassin, Assassins Creed and so on, also popular on the 360?

I do not enjoy most FPS, but there are very few non-fps games that are still Sony only, that I miss out on.

JRPGs' are not selling like they hoped they would have, a lot of those "action" games you mentioned are just that, they literally fall in line with the FPS audience, not with an RPG audience, I will give you fable, and take from you the fact its more or less and adventure RPG, once again appealing to those who enjoy smashing buttons over and over again, it feels like a fighting game.

They took JRPGs for the reason of cracking the Japanese market, has it worked so far? Not really, and the biggest JRPG (FF13) is staying EXCLUSIVE for the PS3 in Japan.

[citation][nom]salgado18[/nom]Oh! And by the way, think for a moment: the PS-One was an astonishing success, beating... the N64, which was hard to program. And the PS2 is an astonishing success... next to the Xbox, which is easier to program, so we can only say that because the price was right at the time. So now, the PS3 is harder to program, AND costs more, AND carries the reputation of a mildly-successfull console.I'm a game programmer, and I'm going Java for mobiles just because I couldn't figure out DirectX or OpenGL, which shouldn't be hard to program. I cannot imagine how it could be harder than that.[/citation]

**Cough**XNA**/Cough**
The 360 is so freakin easy to program for, even a novice like me can make a somewhat decent game.

As for the Sony-racist comment:
You may view it as racismism or nationalism but what it boils down to is that Japanese companies are VERY loyal to their employees and vice-versa. They trust no one but their own, and most likely viewed the American firm as outsourcing, and then decided to take things back in-house. It sucks for the American firm I agree, but unlike American companies who are slowly killing our country for a better bottom line, Japanese companies are actually benefiting their country by hiring their own. They all operate this way, so if you're demonizing Sony for this, you might as well do it for Nintendo as well(whose record is sooooo much worse on mulitple levels)

Anyway, this is very much just an excuse, and the same old "better times will come" rhetoric they keep spouting out. Let's face it, like it or hate it the PS3 has been a flop so far and of course they want to do all they can to get interest back for the product. They need marketshare to get the games, but this was a dumb move.

I break in my car, my jeans, my shoes, I shouldn't have to break in my console (insert RRoD joke here)

I bought my ps3 for 2 reasons
1) bluray player
2) rpg's final fantasy

But #2 is still not out getting sick of waiting, i have only bought 1 game for my ps3 so far, already finished oblivion on pc so...

They really need more rpg and rts i HATE fps and racing.

Try Civ for the PS3, and Valkyria Chronicles, give Eternal Sonata a shot (unless you have a 360 as well) Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice gets crapped on for the wrong reasons, its massive, and you haven't played F3?

For the few THAT DO remember, there was once a gaming platform named Saturn that had tons of 32-bit processors and was hard to program for, similar to the PS3...

Microsoft the creator of DirectX the same DirectX that developers create games on.

Simple point, program for a technically more powerful platform (ps3) but loose hair in the process by having to learn how to program each area of the ps3, then convert API calls to PS3 language.

Or program for the underpowered 360 but gain API flexibility, Microsoft new what they were doing when they assembled the 360 hardware, they knew it wasnt going to be the best hardware, but they also knew they had decades of software experience on any hardware manufacturer...

Both Sony and M$ are relatively new to the game industry, however Sony seems to be the only one currently forgetting History, and never forget that "history always repeats itself"...

R.I.P. SEGA...

what is with all the negative feedback on the comments where people are saying that they like their ps3

i own a ps3 and have been very happy with it, the graphics look great and the blu ray movies look amazing plus out of the box the ps3 comes standard with a ton of stuff that you have to pay extra for on other consoles.

i have played the xbox360 and i think its alot of fun and i will probably buy one eventually, but i bought the ps3 instead because to get a similar setup on the xbox you would have to shell out alot more money. you still have to buy the harddrive, wireless adaptor, charger for the remote, and if you wanted the HD Drive which is no longer available that was sold separate too.

oh and the wii is fun too but there is no way im paying more than $99 for that POS.

Do you own a PS3 ?
Yes.

Are you satisfied with your PS3 ?
Are you kidding me? It's awesome! Great library of original games and real good hardware. It's got it all and has lots of room for expansion improvement. My GF LOVES watching movies on bluray and play Eye of judgement with me. Hands down the best and most complete piece of entertainment I ever owned.

Sony completely misses the mark. You want developers to be able to leverage the full power of the system in the first half year of the system’s life and then spend the next 9 1/2 years on the things that matter: innovative game play, compelling stories, adoption of new peripheral technologies. With the other technologies evolving so quickly, having to spend 5 years just to figure out the hardware just hurts everybody. Take 120 and 240 Hz tvs and the new resurgence of 3D glasses. Why spend 18 months and 250000 dollars retro fitting a 2 year old graphics engine to optimize 3D displays on a console with cryptic hardware when you could design an engine specifically for that purpose from scratch (for larger developers), if the hardware was intuitive and if the developers had IDEs and APIs that were easy to use. Maybe more tech should be focused on making games easier to create so that the overall quality of games improves. There are other arguments such as too many developers using the same engine, length of development for games but numerous articles have already been written on those.

developers dont have the money or the time to dedicate to the PS3. Sony, as usual, assumed that everyone would pick up their console like the PS2 and they banked on it, now it's backfiring. The moment you start thinking you can make the market or that you are better then the rest, is the moment you start to fail. You hear that executives ... you are NOTHING without your employees...

We purchased twp PS3s strickly for Blueray playback of movies....the fact it's a game console is a side benefit for my wife and I.

and lets not forget, sony is hardware minded, not software minded. if they were both, they would've understood that CELL is very limited when it comes to graphic/game processing. They also would've realized that without the right development tools, the most powerful system in the world is a waste of time. If you have 75% market share, fine...but Sony doesnt, they have a much much smaller market share. Sicne the cost of developing for the 360 (software minded company) is SOOOO much cheaper and a faster turn around, why do you think the 360 gets the titles FIRST or the better exclusives?

@decoppel - It's been 2 years. 2008 didnt save them, MGS4 didnt save them. LBP didnt save them. GT5 (if its ever out) wont save them and KZ2 wont save them. If you can't make a large dent in the first 2 years, you've just created a "sharper image" market. Developers want money. Publishers want the possibility to get the games in the most customers possible (for more profit). PS3 has the smallest number... again, its been 2 years. The market is certainly stable...unless you are a PS3 fanboy and are hoping for a turn around for the 2nd year in a row.

I think the console is fantastic, and having it hard to develop games is awesome. That means developers need to bring the best to the table, and not these crappy games. 360 might have more games, but who honestly wants to play 3/4 of them. Good job Sony keep making those developers bring there A game.

@decopple - if you been living under a rock for awhile, its not just the U.S. that has a failing economy. Also sony just posted a 2.2BILLION US dollar LOSS, for the first time in 14 years. Sony also expects the same thing to happen in 2009 as well(as they just stated yesterday, which made their stocks plummet). Sony still lose about 25-40 dollars per system sold @ 400 bucks (more on the more expensive systems). Dropping the price to say, 300 would make them lose 125-140. So even if, in the imaginary mind of video game lovers, they did drop the price and everyone magically wanted one (which they dont, most people have already decided on their system and purchased it, when you are this far into the life of the "next generation") so lets say next year, they sell 10million systems, losing 135 (average) per system. That would be a 1.35 BILLION u.s. dollar loss. Now since they already expect to lose 2+billion in 2009 and their stock will continue to drop, Sony really cant afford to ever cut the price, until they start generating a profit on the manufacturing process and selling to consumers, which is a couple of years out.

@Buddakwon - yeah cause socom was sooo awesome :roll eyes: And if the tired argument of "well system x has more crappy games" is a pointless argument, cause look at the PS2. It has the largest crappiest game selection of all time.

@ antilaeaikfiweikf (see I can mistype your name as well)

I understand the world has a failing economy, but that wouldn't explain why the PS3 outsells the 360 in Japan, its just the US market hurting the PS3's sales.

Last time I checked 40 million consoles or so (total sales between all systems in US) does not represent a population of over 300 million (of course not all are capable of buying a console).

The baseline 360 provides the illusion of a cheap (as in not expensive) product, and allows for better sales during tough economic times, although when you factor in the costs a 199 360 needs to equal the PS3, the PS3s value shines through.

On top of all of that, at this point in the PS2s life cycle it had sold less units, so why you are making a big deal about it is beyond me.
