Hello Everyone..

I've decided to try and hack my Sony Tivo box and replace the hard dirve as
it is failing. Can anyone give me a link of someone or some company that
will sell me hard drives, software (upgrade kits) and the like to do this?

Thanks for the help!

It depends on whether or not your failing hard drive is totally dead or not.
If totally dead, go to PTVUpgrade and get the Instant Cake version for your
machine. This software has an image file ready to install on your new
harddrive. There is also a company called weaknees IIRC, which sells hard
drives ready to go, all tivo-ized for you.
If your hard drive still works, you can get a new drive, at least as large
as the one you have. Download mfstools from SourceForge. This software will
enable you to make an image of your current drive and restore it to your new
drive. Do a search for the Hinsdale Guide, it will walk you through this
procedure. Good luck.

Weakknees.com is GREAT! I've bought 2 bigger drives from them, with no
problems. (Well, one of the drives died, but was under warranty from
Maxtor, and Weakknees helped me get in touch with Maxtor to get the
drive replaced. Plus Maxtor has a warranty option where you provide a
CC# as insurance and they ship out the replacement drive immediately,
and you ship the dead drive back in the new box, within something like
30 days).

And the Maxtor drives that WK sell are great. I forget the model line,
but they are the drives that are optimized to run quiet, and they are
indeed very quiet, even in a bedroom at bed time. WK also sells the
drives with or without the TiVo image on the drive.
