Hello everyone, i have got an issue with my sony vaio vpceh28fg which is almost 6 years old now. Somedays my laptop boots normally but feels very laggy in performance and other days it shows black screen at initial boot up with message- operating system not found, press alt+ctrl+del, upon pressing these keys again and trying for 4attempts the laptop finally boots but is very laggy. The other issue is that there is a sound like constant clicking heard from the laptop. I visited a local repairing center and they said it was just some dust in the fan and they cleared it, after which the sound has disappeared but the os not found message still pops up. I suspected there to be a harddisk error so i tried this hd tune pro software which showed nearly 5% damaged blocks. So what is the best option for me to do now? Please guys help me at this issue.

You shouldn't really test an OS drive while the OS is running but never mind that now.

The hard drive has failed - - buy a new one - best brand to buy in my experience is a Western Digital one.

Don't buy on the cheap, that's asking for trouble.

Good Luck

The clicks arent present after reboot or so. The issues thats bothering me the most is the operating system not found and always shuts down on first boot every other day.

I still think it's the hard drive that's knackered, all the info you gave in your first post points to it being that.

But if you want further confirmation you can test it with diagnostic software. SeaTools will test any brand, you'll need to make a bootable CD from the SeaTools for DOS ISO file:

Thanks for hearing my problem and helping me thus far. I couldn't make a bootable drive using rufus for the dos iso fipe but i used the windows version and in it the short DST result was failed but it passed the short generic test. I dont know what that means though. So shall what shall i do now- keep using this like it is or get a new cheaper one hard drive??
