Normally I thumb down profanity, but in this case I thumbed up. But stating this in a profound way on this site has zero impact. Sony does not have people searching and reading every little comment section.

Sony sure is an @ss, so is western journalists. A few video posted on Youtube doesn't prove there are wild spread glitches. Now days the media makes up all kinds of story just to get the "click".
I don't know how many people actually have the psv or even see it, I do have one (bought it through a Japanese friend, paid quite a premium thou T_T). It is beautiful and I have not encountered any problem yet (took me awhile to charge the system thou).
Anyway, rumors are rumors; nothing more.

Well Sony, lets look at your company. You're car audio sucks, you're computers are under-powered and over prices, your tablets are useless, the ps3 is vulnerable to exploits, the psp is just annoying, and most of all: your customer support is terrible. So, thank you for showing your true colors. Good riddance

maybe the reason a lot of people are experiencing problems reaching the technical help line is there are a lot of people trying to get technical help. there is your widespread evidence.

Sony Walkans used to be DA BOMB... Now, I won't TOUCH a Sony product... I am even avoiding Blu-Ray at this point...

Sony is too big and to arrogant, and unlike in the past, they no longer walk the walk that they talk...

Sony used to be and i stress used to be a great company back in the 80's - mid 90's their quality on their products were one the the best in the market and their reliability was one of the best on the market. I mean my Sony Walkman from 1987 still works! But i started noticing a decline in their products in the late 90's early 2000's once Sony got to be huge they started cutting corners on their products and relied more on their name instead of the quality and reliability of their products to sell their product that gave them their name recognition in the first place. Their electronics don't hold up to the same standard as they once did and it just continues to get worse every year.

Any new electronic or mechanical device in existence has a fault rate at point of sale - no-one is perfect.

The fact that this has been reported by a few users doesn't necessarily mean that it is a widespread problem - we all know how the media can sensationalise these things, particularly has Sony has been under fire a lot in the past year or so.

Of course if this is a widespread problem then Sony should be apologising - but I genuinely don't think they're stupid enough to lie about that. I think the point that Sony are making is that the actual reported faults from users doesn't add up to the media coverage afforded to it, and if that's true (likely) then they do have a good point.

If the device is no less reliable than any other portable entertainment devices on the market, and yet people are just sensationalising a few isolated cases because it's a new product and it's Sony, then they have every right to be annoyed.

If it is a widespread issue then comments like this will only end up biting them and making them look ignorant, stupid, and disrespectful to their customers.

Profanity?

You need to grow a pair if someone saying dick move is considered profanity.

Inaccurate journalism put words in Sony's mouth that weren't said, and suggesting that there's a problem with their product that doesn't exist. So Sony clarified on what they actually said, and somehow... their the bad guy in this story?

I partly blame the misleading article title (which is suggestive that there is an issue that Sony isn't apologizing for), but get some reading comprehension people!

What both Sony and many people fail to realize is that Sony is a hardware product specialist. Only in the 21st Century has software made such a huge difference in people's purchasing decisions. In the 80s, Sony Ealkman tape players were ubiquitous because Sony was the best at making hardware for that specific "tape software". They didn't really have to "program" their hardware. Now that they have to program hardware, they're having a tough time because they still think that the "specs" of the hardware makes the most difference to people. Apple has proved that current hardware that is optimized with very good (albeit not bullet proof) software wins. Everyone knows Sony missed the boat by not making the first good mp3 player. The iPod was already a great product and Sony launched theirs way too late. They should have also jumped on the smart phones wagon and made a good product. Again, they lost by being way too late. Right now, they are trying to sell a new gaming only device. I don't think this is the smartest choice, but I will wait until it comes to the US to make an objective decision on it. I think they really should have made an ICS based gaming device with smartphone capabilities that can play the complete Sony library of games. That would have been fricken killer! Sony's true fail isn't from bad customer support or quality of its products, or from lack of PS3 security. It's from lack of vision.

Well, notice on the article that people are having trouble getting through to the help line. If the help line is so congested then I'd assume they're getting more than a few complaints and issues. I do believe it's likely that a company like Sony would lie, they do it a lot. People are willing to jump to conclusions because of past behavior. Playstation launches frequently have had hardware issues in the past. It isn't a computer part launch being handled by enthusiasts or a beta test. A console is supposed to be free of errors and easy to work with.

Sony does not care about consumers, they think they're just going to buy it anyway because it's Sony. For the most part, they're right. Despite the fact Sony products are usually overpriced versions of what's already available and there's no longer a track record of reliability or better service, Sony is still making money. They already look stupid, ignorant, and disrespectful in the eyes of informed consumers. Informed consumers aren't Sony's audience. All they're looking for at the moment is solid launch numbers to show their investors so they aren't compared to the 3DS launch. If people are having problems, they can deal with it in the next quarter.
