Hi,

I am about to buy a new receiver 7.1 that has HDMI in and out. I need to know if option 2 i possible?

1.
My current setup is as following

Creative soundcard (optical toslink) ----> old receiver for sound
Geforce GT610 (DVI to HDMI cable)------>(Projector) for picture

This set up workd prefeckt but it's only DTS and i need DTS-HD and Dolby- HD / Atmos

2.
New setup with new reciver 7.1

Geforce GT610 (HDMI/HDMI)------>(HDMI IN Receiver) for HD sound
Geforce GT610 (DVI to HDMI cable)------>(Projector) for picture

or do I need a HDMI/HDMI connected in the recevierHDMI OUT to my projector?

And how do I access my reciver GUI while connected to my projector from my GPU?

/P

provided you are talking about a true regular AVR not one of the crappy units which comes with HTIB (home theater in a box) kits, i would instead connect:

computer graphics card (hdmi out)-->receiver (hdmi in)
then receiver (hdmi out)-->projector(hdmi in)

what are the benefits?
-if your receiver has an on screen display, you can access it at any time using your tv
-if you have multiple sources, you can swap between them using the receiver
-less cabling coming out of your pc
-if your receiver supports upscaling and your projector handles higher resolutions you might be able to upscale content

if your receiver uses an OSD, you cant unless you have it connected to the tv on its output. otherwise all you can do is make changes that are possible from the front panel which is limited.

It's a denon avr 2200w.

At the moment I have a old pioneer recevier..

What I would like is to watch moves from my computer that is connected to my projector my gpu support DTS-HD and so on..

How about the denon screen diplay? If my desktop computer is the main source ( win7) Will the screen display from denon appear anyway or do I need to hook up a second display to HDMI OUT ?

And can I only passtrough HD sound to my recevier and use my second display port ( dvi) from my gpu to the projector for picture or has everything go trough my new receiver?

The denon has two HDMI out. One with ARC and a second without. So I guess I can connect

for hd sound
GPU <---HDMI IN-->Denon
Denon<--HDMI OUT (no arc) --> projector

or

GPU <---DVI to HDMI-->Optoma projector for picture

correct?

its possible to connect hdmi/hdmi pc-tv for picture and dvi/hdmi pc-avr for audio but pointless in most cases and it restricts your use of the OSD.

i answered your question about on screen display. if you have NOTHING connected up to the hdmi out on the receiver, you can NOT access an on screen display as it outputs it as video on that port. want to use it? you need something connected. now, you can temporarily hook up your tv to the output to use this feature if you want, but it makes much more sense to just have it hooked up like this all the time.

now, that is generally the case but of course there are exceptions: the only time it doesnt make sense is if you have an odd setup, such as if you use 120/144hz computer monitors (receivers cannot pass this video through) or if you are using an odd resolution on your display that the receiver cannot pass through. in such cases, having an audio connection only is the way to get around any issues.

for standard resolutions and 60hz signal... its fine to use pass through on video and i think your usage patterns will fall under this.

So the best solution would be

PC<--hdmi/hdmi in-->denon
denon <---hdmi/hdmi out --> optoma projector
?

should I use the HDMI OUT with acr or not? my optoma had no build-in sound
