sound bar/receiver compatibility

I am hiding my components away from my TV in a nearby closet. I only want to run 1 HDMI out from my receiver (where apple tv, cable box, blu ray are connected) to my TV. I also want to switch from my current table top 3:1 speaker system to a sound bar. Will I get sound if I run the HDMI out from my receiver to the HDMI powered sound bar (in), then HDMI (out) to my TV?

It sounds like you only need to use the receiver as an HDMI switch. The receiver will probably not send audio to the soundbar so get an HDMI switcher. An automatic one would be easiest to use. This is one example:
