Sound Card driver update issue "data invalid"

Hi there!
I need some help with my sound card driver! Just a week ago,when I started my computer up I noticed that It wasn't playing any sounds. So I messed around with the driver,looked for solutions online but nothing helped.I tried to install the driver provided by my notebook's manufacturer. It installed succesfully but it doesn't seem to work. I went into device manager,but the only thing related to the sound card was "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" with a little yellow exclamation mark in the corner. If I go into properties I can see a Code 18 error (reinstall driver). I cliced on the "reinstall driver..." button,then I tried both automatic and manual install but neither worked. It says: "The data is invalid". I'm using a Dell inspiron 5520 15R laptop,Win 8.1, 64bit OS. And the audio driver is Conexant btw.

go to dell's website then check for your laptop's drivers. there should be a collection of drivers there, just be sure to choose for the correct operating system..

look for the sound driver on the selection, then install and restart.

I've already done that, it didn't work, Did my sound card die?

not just yet.. can you go back to device manager right click on the suspected sound card, click on properties.

on the drivers tab check if "roll back driver" is available.

No It's not available

then, right click on it again then choose disable, after a few seconds enable it back up.
