Sound card to Receiver

I just bought a sound card which is Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCIe Sound Card
and I am currently have Sony 5.1 3D Blu-ray Home Theater System
I also bought a Tosklink cable from Best Buy.
My question is I ran the driver of the card and connected the Toslink cable to my receiver, but I don't know if it is working or not.
Is it enough to only use the Toslink to connect from the sound card to the receiver? or do I have to input any other cables?
I don't really know what to do to get surround sound 🙁 I want to play surround sound on my computer.

Also my speaker doesn't play 5.1 it play 2.1 is there any way to make it play 5.1 ?
I can think 2 ways one is use HDMI cable to connect to my soundcard but the sound card doesn't have hdmi also the same as other sound cards there are very few sound card has hdmi support.
The second way is to buy 3 3mm cables to connect from the sound card to the speaker but there is another problem that the reciever of sony doesn't have 3 input cable which are orange black and blue. It only have red and white for 2 speaker. 🙁
I don't know what to do to get my speaker performance 5.1 sound 🙁
