I have tried 2 different wires and everything I can possibly think of.
I have a DVR/cable box hooked to my tv the HDMI and also a blu ray/dvd player through HDMI. there is a splitter because my tv only has one HDMI port.
But I recently bought a RCA soundbar for my Element tv and I can not figure out how to hook it even with the two different cables I bought.
The two cables I bought are: 1. Sterio Audio Cable and 2. Audio "Y" adapter
The RCA soundbar I bought is called "Home Theather Sound Bar with bluetooth wireless technology" my TV is a Element 23" HD Digital LED TV

Solution
Your TV does not have an audio output so you have to get the audio from the cable box directly. Since the cable box has L/R audio outs this is easy. Many Bluray players however do not have analog audio outputs and many have only HDMI. If yours does then you need an audio selector like this:

rather then a Y connetor. Y connector is for splitting one source to two inputs not two sources to one input.
If it doesn't then you would need one of these to get the audio off the HDMI

I would just return the soundbar and get one that has HDMI inputs and HDMI output. Would be easier to use and sound better too.
