Okay so I don't really know much about soundcards so I wondered if anyone could help me.

Okay so here is what im thinking, I own a pair of these sony headphones http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007I1QYF4/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=electronics

Im currently using a pair of gamecom 780's for gaming with 7.1 surround, if I were to buy a sound card would it be able to provide surround sound to the sony headphones and provide better quality than the 780's?

Any help is appreciated

It doesn't look like those Sony headphones support true surround sound. A soundcard likely would give you better sound overall for the 780s, but good soundcards are very expensive. It may not be worth buying unless you are sure you like the results a new soundcard will give you as opposed to a graphics card upgrade or SSD.

Well im already running a i7 3770k with a palit 780ti and a 240gb ssd. 😛

I was just wondering if my 780's are usb the sound card wouldn't effect them correct?

Yes, if the 780 is USB, a sound card will have no effect. And a sound card cannot give surround sound to headphones that do not support surround sound.

Solution

No, and plantronic gamecoms 780s are decent for sound :/
