Spec Comparison on 14 Inch Laptop

Will be used for light gaming and maybe a virtual machine.
The specs:

i7 6700HQ
AMD Radeon R9 m375 2GB
8GB RAM

i5 5200U
NVidia Geforce 940M
8GB RAM

Which would run faster?

What makes the i7 model better? Is it the CPU or the graphics card?

On notebookcheck.com the Nvidia is listed as quality mid-range card at number 150 and the ATI is 151 so they are about the same. But the processors the i5 has a U behind it and that means under powered. The U processors are used in a lot of 2 in 1 devices and are more energy efficient, temperature efficient than the processor with HQ. HQ's are quad core and use Hyper Threading and turbo boost. The U processors are mostly 2 cores.

I would go with the i7 6700hq personally. It's a great quad core processor that packs a lot of punch. The graphics cards are on a level playing field as terms of performance.
