I know there will be disagreement here, and I am interested in what everyone thinks...
The perfect laptop....
Has a main battery, plus a battery that fits in the DVD drive bay so I can swap one at a time, and keep it running.
Has cheap after-market parts available for it.
Is a convertible, with a screen that swivels over the keyboard.
Has dual digitizers: resistive and active digitizer.
Has room for a 12.5mm tall 2.5" SATA HDD, plus a m-SATA (mini-PCI-e type) SSD. The BIOS has been tested for huge capacities on both. There is no excuse for not supporting 25TB hard disks, or for not supporting SATA port multipliers.
Has user-upgradable RAM via DIMMs, and supports a huge amount of RAM. None of that Atom "2GB is all You will ever need, because Intel says so" or "OK, we heard You and now 4GB is all You will never need" crap.
Has a user-replaceable (socketed) processor.
Has a great and upgradable WiFi card in a mini-PCI-e slot, with great antennas.
Has external ports for:
* USB (many of them)
* SATA
* Headphones & Microphones
* Ethernet (Because I sometimes have to set up a new router.)
* Lock Port (Because I leave it at work from time to time.)
Is easy to repair with cheap replacement parts.
Has infinite battery life.
Weighs nothing.
Costs nothing.
Is only as big as the screen dictates in X and Y, and is nearly 0 thickness in Z.
Is indestructible, which starts with an aluminum case and a tough hinge.
