ssd instead of hdd

I hace a HP Compaq CQ58 laptop but it is a bit old ang getting slow ...can I change the HDD drive to an SSD will this laptop take an SSD ?

Yes, but price per gb of ssd is very high. I suggest keep the hdd and change dvd drive(if any) to ssd

you could keep both.
remove the optical drive and install a HDD tray in its place, then install the SSD where the HDD was installed and you can boot off of the SSD and have the HDD as storage. the DVD may have a slower bus so you will want the HDD there and the SSD on the fast bus. do not put ssd in tray.

example only, shop around, measure twice cut once. trays available in different heights get the right one.

that being said I would not spend any more money on that laptop. the c-60 is a terrible performer and, IMHO any money spent would be a waste/not full utilized.

thanks for your help ..I know it is an old laptop but handy when you go on holiday to have film etc on ..and to get in touch with your mail ...just one more question ..where can I get tips on how to swap the optical drive to the HDD?????????
also are you sure a SSD will fit into this laptop ?

the optical drive is a standard width and depth, you will need to find the disassembly instructions but it is usually one screw on the bottom of the laptop that secures the DVD drive into the laptop body. the height of the dvd drive will determine the height of the tray needed. usually 7mm, 9mm, or 12mm high. once you have the height you can verify the HDD will fit into the tray. then height of the HDD will tell you the MAXIMUM HEIGHT of the SSD you can fit. a smaller in height SSD can and will fit into a larger space (HDD mount) with no issues.
