Solved! Static noise in audio extension cable input

I bought a 3.5mm audio extension cable and there is a strong static noise when using the microphone. I am using the jacks on my motherboard into a y-splitter and then the extension cable. I am certain that the extension cable is the problem since directly connecting to the y-splitter eliminates the static noise. My earphones uses a combo jack.

Is there anything I can do to fix it?

Get another brand/model of cable to try. Likely a grounding issue.
