Stereo jack splitter not working

My laptop dell 5577 has only a headphone jack and I have a dragonwar ghs-009 device which has both a headphone and a microphone jack due to which I bought a kotion each stereo jack splitter(2 female to 1 male) but still my microphone is not working. What has to be done? Do I need a sound card?

You need to get a headphone - mic splitter. Other types won't work. The plug will be TRRS. The mic jack will be TR and the headphone jack TRS. Some splitters have a completely different function. Apple product wire the plug differently so you have to get one for general use usually.

-Thanks, but I have already tried this and it was a failure, I have checked the headphone in a desktop and both the mic and headphone were working properly. So could a new sound card solve the problem?

An external USB soundcard might work.
I would contact Dell since if you got the correct splitter that should have worked.
