Steve Jobs could have just said it's their policy to no want Porn on thei App Store. It's that simple, and I have absolutely no problem with that line of argumentation. Nobody is obliged to buy an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch, nor do they have a monopoly. So you DO have freedom of choice.

The reason I called him a hypocrite is for the simple fact that he does not maintain his argument consistent when those devices come preloaded with a non-censored browser called Safari, that allows you to watch Porn and look at as many cartoons as people want. And as long as political cartoons (and whatever they might chose to censor next) and porn is not ilegal or a crime and conforms to the law, they only have two arguments to censor it: company policy or morals.

If Steve Jobs orderd their engineers to created a porn filter/political cartoons/etc, for their devices, and thus keep their coporate beahaviour consistent, then I'd have no problem with his morals.

BUt as it is, it's not morals, because it's inconsistent and there hypocrite. It company policy, call it that. Trying to justify it with values is ridiculous because it's not coherent or consistent with Safari or any other browser they allow (recently Opera, for example.)

"we do believe we have a moral responsibility."

Bush believed he was talking to God, look what happened there.
Arrogant idiot.

Jobs should stick to marketing, not deciding whats best for his customers. The customer decides what is best and buys accordingly, maybe he needs a to go back to school and learn that.

What, did Tom's forget to mention Apple just posted their earnings?? Desktop computers up 40%, iPhone up 130%, stock jumped up 14 points today! Apple's 13.5 Billion 1st quarter vs. Microsoft's rather weak 6 Billion. Apple's earnings per share $3.33 vs. Microsoft's $1.13.

And this doesn't even include the iPad numbers and in June/July we'll have 4G iPhone.

In the computing world Microsoft it's now a Google/Apple game, Microsoft continue to fad to obscurity trying to sell people on $400 OS that's just under delivers. The only thing keeping Microsoft alive is the business world and that may change soon also as their OS's are becoming more and more expensive to maintain.

Anyway feels good to tell you Microsoft leg humpers that I told you so. So Tom how about report some real news about Apple rather than this purile junk about porn?

Oh I forget, this is Tom's where 90% of your readers go on about endless diatribes about $2 difference in the price of a video card. Maybe if Tom's readers where able to see the light, they would have bought Apple stock long ago and be in a financial position to not care about the price of computers, any computer.

[citation][nom]ravewulf[/nom]You are seriously underestimating the demand for porn in the gay world. I would know, I have 100+ GBs of it (I am trying to cut down on it though, too much trash, not enough treasure).[/citation]

Exactly! Because, there's not enough good gay porn, Jobs doesn't want any porn now. Maybe, when there's enough good gay porn, Jobs then will approve all types of porn on Apple Stores?

All you haters are a bunch of wankers. Seriously, get a life! In the old days when men were men, they did not need porn, never mind an endless supply for all available gadgets.

Apple content control is not cool, but neither is endorsed portable filth.

I believe Bush's logic went like this:

"Life is so complex, there must be a God" -- and this comes from a US President ... That's like saying, because I don't understand something, I can make something up. And this guy was heading up the US in the #1 spot ... scary isn't it.

As far as porn, I can get it on my iPhone without a problem, don't know what Job's is talking about and don't really care. I think it makes sense that Apple does NOT endorse porn, but they certainly aren't blocking porn. But if all you idiots actually had an iPhone, you'd realize it's not blocked at all.

I don't have a problem with porn and apparently neither do most folks as 90% of our bandwidth is consumed by it. Killing people under the name of "righteous" and "religion" I have a problem with, but for the most sex (in all it's flavors) is far less harmful than killing someone because of differences in "faith". But in the US, 70% of the population is religious, and that's one major reason why we have some many problems.

[citation][nom]zybch[/nom]You mean take a look at the almost $8 billion Sony bribed the studios with to support only bluray?Of course, the money was disguised as 'marketing funds' much like how Intel gave out its bribes to companies that agreed to not use AMD processors.[/citation]

you act like birbery is illegal in this country. its called lobbying, a legal bribe :) ask some people in washington about it, on both sides of the aisle

Porn drives technology. Has for decades. BetaMax would have survived if port didn't go VHS. Given that male buyers are the ones who pay for most technology and 90% of men look at porn and apple is classifying something as simple as a topless screen saver as porn this could hurt Apple.
Does that mean you won't be able bring up playboy.com on an Ipad or Imac in the future?
I will take your advice though Steve and look at the android for my next purchase, I don't need the porn I just don't want to be told what I can't do. I moved out of my moms house years ago, and stopped having someone else make my decisions back then.

There is a big difference between censoring content and choosing not to actively assist the distribution of certain kinds of content. Any criticism of this decision is on par with criticizing Walmart for not selling porn DVD's just because they sell DVD's. As for people saying that Apple gets to 'decide what is porn', that's ridiculous, the government defines what is porn. Porn is material that is ILLEGAL to distribute to minors in this country.

Chill out, Rob. Why do you get such a hard-on from worshiping at the alter of Steve Jobs, while simultaneously taking up arms (figuratively speaking) against the vast majority of people who prefer a Microsoft OS?? Most of the criticisms of Jobs and Apple are based in fact. And lest you forget, Apple isn't the only company that is doing well. Intel posted a pretty nice 1Q number and AMD wasn't too shabby either (Microsoft's report doesn't come out till tomorrow). So where, exactly, does this fierce (rabid?) loyalty come from?

[citation][nom]stevejobsrules[/nom]Steve Jobs rules. Period! I am so glad that there are people out there trying to protect us from stupidity and perverts. There is no need for porn on iPhones. The Internet is vast and if you need to watch porn you can do it on your own terms. Also, you can pretty much browse from your iPhone's browsers to any porn page you want. Oh, wait! You guys don't own an iPhone. So, why do you get all upset? Bunch of whiners! Also, God is watching you.[/citation]

First...what is the God thing you are talking about? I looked it up and nothing seems to confim that it exists. So the score is Crazy 1 : You 0

Next, we are trying to watch porn on our own terms. Little Stevie is trying to keep my ta-tas off my iphone just because he is struggling with his sexuality and doesn't like them. That doesn't mean he should keep them out of everyones hands.

The logical incongruencies here are absurd, and I know exactly what I am buying into.

Apple is not a government, Apple is a company. This is the same company that these same critics are spouting out things about such as "Who cares, Apple has no market share!" Ironic then that they somehow think our country is in threat of the Steve Jobs communist censorship invasion.

Steve Jobs doesn't own the internet, he owns the iPhone. Censor whatever they want in the mobile device app store, no one is in danger. The mobile internet (safari, opera) is not censored and you can go where you want (unless it's flash :p). Last time I checked your computers still worked. Last time I checked there's quite a few competing smart phones. This is about the equivalent of walking into Costco and complaining they don't sell porn and we are in danger of censorship. Umm... no. Costco doesn't want to sell porn, and I am glad. It's a place I bring my family to shop. It's Apple's App Store. They don't want to sell and with good reason. If you want it, get it from a different source - mobile opera, safari. And if that's not good enough, you can to a different ecosystem. The iPhone is built around the App Store, but it's not the only option.

This isn't even a serious discussion unless Google or the US Government started censoring things from the source itself - the internet.

@ prince or others - it's funny how misinformed you think I am about my beliefs on porn or sexuality, when your objections are the most elementary of arguments. It's really kind of cute. If you'd really like to have some serious, intelligent discussion on the issue you can PM me. Feel free to disagree with, but at least you can argue back with something of substance. I'm not going to get into a philosophical debate on a tech thread about an App Store.

So let me get this right stevejobsrules...god watches me when I view male on male priest porn over the webernet? Freaking peeping Tom! But all crazy talk aside, do we really need another reason to not buy an apple product? I'm kind of glad he is doing this, I'm tired of goons running around thinking they are the bee's knee's cuz they just paid 2k for a 700 dollar laptop with a fruit on it. I say let him bury his own company if he wants.

Hey jobs, once again you've screwed the pooch. Just because you have morals doesn't mean that you have the RIGHT to force those morals on the rest of the world. The job that you're dev's are paid to do is make apps that keep the customer satisfied so YOU make money. Well, you just pissed of a lot of the male consumers and they're probably going to take your advice and buy into DROID. When apple dies, you'll have no one to blame but yourself. Another reason why google rocks.
