I'm glad everyone can finally see that Apple can act just like any other company. For me, it's not about the porn. I just don't want my device to be controlled by anyone except me.

I don't see this as being analogous to the VHS-Beta war. The VCR was *the* media consumption device of the day. Mobile phones are conveniences that we use to consume media in small amounts. When we are ready for more we head to our Televisions and PCs. Whether Apple has the right to dictate moral principles in their own closed market is a grey area to me. On the one hand I don't like people telling me what to do, but on the other, nobody is forcing me to buy an iPhone.

It's pretty funny that this whole issue is pointed towards porn. Porn is not the only item on the list of apps that apple wont approve, and it has now gotten worse. All the devs that are making good apps for the Iphone through pre-built code are being told that they can no longer use that and that all code must be made in house from scratch. http://www.pcworld.com/article/194318/apple_locks_iphone_developers_in_its_walled_garden.html there it is for your reading. So Porn is not a major issue here, but Apple, Steve Jobs, is using it to turn your eyes away from the real issues that face all developers and end users.

Those of you that support Apple really have no clue as to what you are buying into. You think it is all about blocking porn and you are wrong. You think what Jobs is doing is great, but you are only looking at the issues he is bringing up. I really hope you all wake up one day, because the whole Iphone apps store is about to cross into your beloved MacOS and you had better believe that good old "looking out for you" Mr Jobs is just trying to protect you. Last time I looked he is not your dad, but he is treating you all like little children that cannot make you own decisions. Good luck with your Iproperty.

Oh and one for good measure, that browser on the Iphone, yea it can go and download porn. Oh wait you guys didn't know that? Sorry Jobs for letting the cat out of the bag. Guess he will route your browser through a proxy server real soon to stop that as well.

I'm just curious but at this point why do people still buy iPhones? Not meant to flame, but what do they have that a good Android phone doesn't have.

1) ATT sucks
2) It's expensive
3) Iphone has all this moral police limitation crap
4) Droid does everything Iphone does, better

O M G! this man is crazy! how the hell is he to tell the client/buyer what to watch on their own devices.
Ahaha what's next? no google?
Plus freaking iPhone is not for children, whats wrong with pornography in it.. Does he know that he is making war against one of the biggest industries in this world?
Well it's clear that now on we will see all the big porn people holding android phones right?

Given that roughly 98% of men have admitted to looking at porn (according to a survey by the Kinsey Institute), Jobs might not want to insist on the iPhone having the same pathetic market-share as the iMac

Though I think it would be trashy to have a Porn App on your iPhone, especially if someone was casually rummaging through your apps as overzealous non-iPhone users tend to do when they get a hold of your phone, I do think that it's not Apple's job or priority to keep it out of the hands of their consumers. Apple certainly should not make an effort to get intertwined with the adult entertainment industry, but should be making a conscious effort to make sure we can't?

Sometimes I wonder why corporations are not just content with financial success; they have to make a social impact as well. It's somewhat justified, and somewhat unnecessary.

I think the reason most of you want porn apps is because you're incapable of using the universal porn app that comes bundled with every computer and mobile computing device since the internet was invented.
It's called a web browser.

Stop whining about SJ and Apple already, please buy something else, because it's getting old to the point of annoying, and that's coming from a Mac guy.

Why don't you freedom fighters try being innovative, port Lesbian Linux to a mobile platform, you'll have a porn OS and all the one handed surfing you can handle.

Or you can fantasize you're coding Tinkerbell Linux with Paris Hilton, keep one hand coding and pretend Paris is your other hand.
(read it twice)

For you seriously manly types, there's Barbie Linux.
Get them all here.

No disrespect to the Linux brewers or technologically aware, just the fools and simpletons.

I'm not particularly into porn, but the fact that Apple has the ability to restrict what I do on my phone and how I use it is precisely why I don't have an Iphone. I do have a Droid. :)

I like to think I am moral enough to govern what I do and don't do on a daily basis. Thanks for looking out for those mouth breathers that need a little extra help, I happen to not be one of them.

[citation][nom]Steve(Blow)Jobs[/nom]However, we do believe we have a moral responsibility to keep porn off the iPhone.[/citation]
And this is why I will never buy an Apple product. It's bad enough the guy is an insufferable prick and an arrogant ass, but he also believe he has a responsibility to push his morality on his customers. It's bad enough when elected officials do that; but we certainly don't have to tolerate it from some schlub hocking consumer electronics (and at premium prices, no less).

I don't blame him. I don't see people crying about Wii, Microsoft, or PS3 not having porn. Anyone who needs to download porn and jack off to a tiny screen is a loser and should probably seek immediate help. People just bitch about this just to have something to bitch about. And one thing I really hate is when people cry about a non-issue.

I find all of these Steve Job emails suddenly popping up dubious though. I can't picture any CEO of a multi-billion dollar company answering emails, especially stupid ones.

I'm not for apple being the morality police, but I'm really glad they are taking a stand for their belief. Granted, they do some really questionable stuff, but I must say I agree with them in this instance.

This is pretty much how I feel, but historically Apple has control over everything they do, and most of what their customers do, so I'm not really sure why people expected something different. I feel like my own morality should be what stops me from viewing pornography, not Apple. It is however, the expected result of an Apple product; and to be frank, Steve Jobs acknowledged that. He said they can buy another device, he realizes it ticks some people off and they don't agree; he simply said "i'm not changing, you can, that's why you're the consumer and this is the free market".

I'm sorry, there are many reasons to vilify Steve. However, refusing to bow down to the porn industry isn't one of them.

I wouldn't want to deal with those greasy low lives.

I don't see a point in keeping porn off the iPhone. People are going to find it regardless be it via an iPhone app or web site. Plus it will be more difficult for Apple to stop porn being on the iPhone if more sites shift to HTML5 to embed video.

[citation][nom]ubervelt[/nom]This adds even more evidence to the pile of Job's being gay.[/citation]

Even if he is, why should that matter at all? A person being gay has absolutely nothing to do with what he/she is capable of. I don't really understand why people even make an issue out of it anymore. If someone is gay, who cares?

[citation][nom]philkw[/nom]Jobs is the reason that after 15 years as the Mac guy fighting big brother I ditched Apple Computer.[/citation]
Not to say I don't agree with what your saying, but Jobs didn't even work for Apple 15 years ago. He didn't even come back to the company until late 1996.
[citation][nom]CChick[/nom]god is watching? hmm, first off I dont believe in God, bite me bitch. oh whats next? even there is a God, he created everything for a reason, so ? why I can't I do/use it as "design" ? one more thing, in your words, are you against sex or something? seriously if your father wasn't into p0rn, u would have never even exist. so yeah go suck it bitch.[/citation]
Well, you agree with Jobs there CChick, not even Jobs himself believes in God. He is Buddhist.
