Strange Purple Male Power Cable for Speakers

Hi,

I've been using a pair of Diamond 'Multimedia Speaker Kit 6863620100' speakers since as long as I can remember, though recently the 'PACKARD BELL iMEDIA 5094' PC I was using them with died on me, so before the old thing managed to collect heaps of dust I decided to send it to the scrap heap regarding it's inconveniences. Now, these speakers were, as I can remember, pretty worthy in the day, and I was wondering if I could bring them back to life for a small-scale media set up, until I found out that they used this strange purple cable as a source of power. After searching the internet for a fair bit of time, and finding nothing of interest or even remote help, I'm now wondering if any of you guys know of this odd cable.

EDIT: It fitted into a purple port at the back of the PSU of the Packard Bell. Unfortunately, I can't post any pictures of that since it has probably already been covered up by heaps of other rubbish 😛

that looks like a fairly standard power connector,similar to those found on laptops.
The easiest way to get the speakers working would be to buy a 12 Volt 1 Amp power supply then cut the purple plug off the end of the speaker power cable and connect the wires from the power supply to it.
You will need to find which colour of wire goes to the center of the purple plug as this will need to connected to the +ve of the power supply.

12V DC 1 amp positive on the inside negative on the outside, just find the right size.

You won,t find a power supply with a female connector unfortunately .
1000mA is the same as 1A so that power supply would work ok.

You won,t find a power supply with a female connector unfortunately .
1000mA is the same as 1A so that power supply would work ok.

Cool! Just wondering if it's still possible to wire the cable on the speaker to the power supply at here (a cheaper version of the original link) seeing as the cable on the power supply seems to be divided into two separate cables glued together. (don't worry, sooner or later I'll pick you as the solution :3)

I'm also pretty inexperienced in the 'wiring cables together' factor - but I'm guessing it's just a matter of exposing the wires and wiring them together according to the colour of the rubbery coating?? O_O

You will need to find which wire goes to the center conductor on the plugs and wire them together then wire the other two together.
The best way to find the center conductor would be to use a multimeter but failing that you could basically cut the plugs open with a sharp knife and see where they are connected.
You probably want to use something like this to connect the wires together.
