I have a six month work assignment to Malaysia coming up. Due to censorship, a lot of Western entertainment is not available, such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. But I also have read that many Westerners get around this by setting up proxy accounts and either recording or streaming directly to an HDMI-compatible TV. I’d like to make sure that I have all the gear and do some dry runs before I go. Can I ask for some help understanding what gear I need to assemble, what accounts I need to set up and any gotchas I might be likely to run into?

That's a little bit of a hassle on your part setting up gears to assemble and accounts. It would be easier if you try some other online streaming software like smartypctv.com. It works great. Keep us posted if it works.
