Stuck cartridge feeder

Hello,
My Sony Handycam is stuck When I put a cassette in the cassette compartment the compartment won't go downwards and back into place. The camera just ejects the cassette, so I am unable to play a tape or record any new video. Any advice?

Is the camera on when you do this? If yes, check the screen, or look through the viewfinder, to see if there are any error messages. I have had a similar problem in that it would take the tape and after a short time eject the tape. I was getting an condensation error. Leaving the cassette compartment open for an hour solved the problem.
