I have a YST-SW010 powered sub that I want to connect to my Insignia NS-STR514 the problem is that my reciever is only 2 channel. Also I was wondering if I could use a Single RCA cable to bare wire to hook it up

Solution
No you can't. You would damage the sub and maybe the receiver too.
You can use a speaker to line level converter and connect one output of it to the subwoofer input.

If you want to make a stereo to mono passive converter like this one

You would wire it at the output of the converter. You would get the bass from both channels then. If the type of music you listen to tends to have mono bass anyway you won't notice much difference.

Okay thanks! Just ordered the converter you linked I was wondering if I could use this

https://www.amazon.com/FosPower-Y-Adapter-Splitter-Digital-Subwoofer/dp/B01LQVWGNU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1529356034&sr=8-3&keywords=rca%2By%2Badapter%2B1%2Bmale%2Bto%2B2%2B%2Ca%3Be&th=1

to get both channels into mono. Sorry if it is a dumb question I am a bit new to audio.

The single to twin rca you may get away with by connecting the converter to speaker output B & your main speaker to speaker output A - If speaker outputs a & b are independently powered .

If not as americanaudiophile has said you will likely get feedback on the stereo channels & maybe end up with mono audio from your main speakers.
