Suggestions for shooting jewelry and gemstones with a GH1

Hello,

I am a beginner photographer with a Panasonic Lumix GH1 and am hoping for some advice on how to obtain sharper images, specifically when shooting loose gemstones and other small jewelry pieces.

I am limited on money right now, but am currently working with a 14-42mm Lumix kit lens and a Minolta 50mm/1.7 lens with adaptor. I am sure I need to purchase a different lens to get the job done well, but am not sure exactly sure where to start. I also utilize a photo tent and basic soft box lighting system.

Right now the photos are just too soft for my liking once cropped in post.

Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks in advance!

Try a smaller aperture with a longer exposure on tripod.
Shoot in Camera Raw if your Camera is able.
Sharpen images in Adobe LightRoom (Very good) or Photoshop (Excellent)
