As nice as they are, I would only get one if you make enough money to consider it a disposable device, or if you get an iron-clad extended warranty which covers accidental damage.
If you don't need the features unique to the Surface Pro (100% sRGB, 3:2 aspect ratio screen, pen), I'd suggest getting a gaming PC and a generic (used) tablet. You don't say what games you emulate, and there are emulators available for Android (Apple frowns on emulators because they allow programs to bypass the Apple App Store and thus they don't get a 30% cut of the purchase price). Use something like Splashtop or Steam In-home Streaming to project games which won't run on Android onto your tablet when you're at home.
