Surround sound equipment compatibility

Equipment: TV- Samsung Smart
Receiver SONY AV - STR-DH520
BluRay Insignia NS-BRDVD4
Cable TV box- Motorola HD Dual Tuner DVR
I have two wall speakers and two ceiling speakers. I get sound out of the wall speakers but nothing from the ceiling speakers. Is it possible the equipment is not compatible and that is why I never get sound from my ceiling speakers and why I do not get surround sound period?
