[citation][nom]fozzyfozborne[/nom]So the girl took a picture of herself and then was SURPRISED that it got distributed? Wow, how stupid can you be? All I can say is thank God high school is over.[/citation]

Amen to that. I still remember how immature people were even on graduating day at mine. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't. Plus I feel sorry for kids these days, the maturity level at schools is extremely low and most times I talk to anyone under 18 it is like talking to a 10 year old child which is thick headed.

[citation][nom]-unknown-[/nom]If a girl under 19 (or whatever the age is) sends a naked picture of themselves, voluntarily, then how do you classify that as exploitation?[/citation]

The law is intended to halt exploitation, but part of doing so is to eradicate the market for underage porn - hence the zero-tolerance policy for possession.

I will agree that technically this is still child pornography. Regardless off the age of the senders and receivers.
However I think there should be a seperate set of laws for individuals who are underage.
Hell if teachers can't use red pens because it hurts a kids feelings. I wonder what being a registered sex offender will do to that growning mind, and the social ramifications it will have on him/her that will effect them for the rest of their lives.

It seems strange to me how everyone is deriding this girl, seems that everyone here has forgotten what it is like to be a child and to have that first love or crush. Although most kids are smart (they are not idiots like most people here would have us believe)They tend to be educated, tech savvied and generally clued up, but they are still young, teenagers with emerging hormones, and emotional inexperience.

This girl fell in love, wanted to please her boyfriend, and as MOST teenagers probably felt it was a true love that will last forever, remember that feeling? She would of trusted him, probably trusted him more than her parents. All she is guilty of is being Naïve.

As to the boy, all we have is presumption on his motives, the fact that this image has spread across different schools though does indicate that the boy, or someone he sent the picture too was malicious, and did intend to distribute the picture to a large group of people knowing it would cause distress to the girl, that is who should be really punished.

Putting all these kids on the sex register is rather stupid, I guess everyone just forgets what it is like to be a child, harsh words maybe needed, possibly community service for the more serious offenders, perhaps with some counselling on empathy and human feeling might also help.

But there is just so much hatred on here towards this girl and her mother, people need to get a reality check, kids demand the latest gadgets for Christmas or birthdays, it is the nature of kids, it is the nature of parents to trust their children, it is the nature of children to push the boundaries set to them. I did all sorts when i was a kid, I had interest, curiosity and a desire to know everything and felt I was mature enough and an adult by their age, I wasn't of course but I felt I was, just as these kids will.

Anyway carry on with your bitterness and hatred, I am sure it will help you through life (NOT)

First of all, what the hell went frong with the family, where 13yr old girl takes her clothes off for her boyfriend?

No wonder so many 16yrs old skanky mothers live on state benefits..

[citation][nom]thegreathuntingdolphin[/nom]What amazes me tho is how stupid these kids are. I mean, kids are usually stupid, but this is getting out of hand! You would think after the 100 million negative stories about the dangers and punishments of sexting some teens would get it...[/citation]

Not that many kids read or watch news. It's the failure of the parents and our school system, basic manner..

Im trying to figure out why nudity is pornographic? So that would mean as a father, I have no right to change the diapers on my kids for fear of pornography or sexual arrousal? These picture taking kids of today are no different than the kids of 40-50 years ago playing doctor behind the neighbors garage.

I think the kids need councelling. But ruining their lives by making them register as sex offenders I do not agree with. Our lawmakers have their heads up their ass's.

If teens must have a cell phone, they need the base model without a camera. A Prepaid phone with 60 minutes of talk time would be ideal. Many of us went though our teens without cell phones, the most we had was a pager and these problems didn't exist then. I blame the parents for getting them a camera phone in the first place.

Hope the mom has that girl on birth control, since she apparently never had a sex talk with her. The boys parents need to work on not raising an a-hole. I'm thinking we need to implement parental controls on cell phones so that if you enable pics, mms only works to your parents, who then have to forward the message to whoever.

Law needs to be clarified here. A 13 year old, taking a pic (or more) and sending it to the boyfriend shouldn't = automatic sex offender for either party. Further distribution = sex offender, is debatable. In that case it should be up to the judge with guidelines. If the boy was pressuring the girl to take pics, then mass distributing it sure, but if they were happily in the relationship and the boy sent a pic to his best friend as proof or something, it's debatable what that counts as.

So we make this kid a sex offender, unable to find work in most places or live just about anywhere (given laws on the subject these days), over this? He is 14. He can't even legally drive. Where is that story of the 12 year old girl who took pictures of herself and a teacher accidentally found them, and now she is a sex offender?
