Mom should be charges with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, for poor parenting and giving her a cell phone. The girl must be charged as well. Personally I think it's all bullshit but if you're going to charge someone they must be first.

That's retarded. You cannot watch your kids all the time. If she bought a Kodak disposable camera at the 7-11 and developed the film after taking pictures of herself in her bathroom, should the mom also be charged? Or is the mom supposed to follow her into the bathroom and make sure she never has access to a $10 camera, as well?

You can't stop a kid from showing their body to a camera, without basically imprisoning them.

[citation][nom]Abrahm[/nom]This is retarded. How can a person spreading pictures of another person THEIR OWN AGE be convicted of child pornography? There should be an age difference factor when it comes to charges like this. A 40 year old man sending 13 year old girl pictures is completely different than a 14 year old boy doing it. They are essentially going to ruin these kid's lives. Also, they need to stop blaming other people for stupid people's mistakes. It's the girls own fault she took the picture and sent it in the first place. Deal with the consequences.[/citation]

I agree that forcing the child to register as a sex offender is extremely over the top but vehemently disagree with your entire second paragraph.

The girl isn't very smart for sending a "nude" picture of herself to her "boyfriend" but that is where the blame on her stops. The kid who had the picture and decided to send it to all of his friends in a deliberate attempt to harm the girl is a real ass and deserves some harsh punishment. No decent human being would do that sort of thing to another person.

[citation][nom]nukem950[/nom]Well, My kids will not have MMS. I think that should help prevent this from happening in their lives.[/citation]

Maybe a bit, but they can still allow others to photograph them....

Where is the proof that it was a "deliberate attempt to harm"? I'm not saying it wasn't malicious but how do you know he wasn't just bragging to his friends?

Right, but I wasn't at the interview to determine if there really was an error in transcription. As much as I think that there should be another word used in the quote, should it be "respected" or "accepted"? Perhaps she really did say "expected."

I'd rather defer to the original source than make something up.

Marcus, the "original source" (kirotv.com) as I posted already, has the video and she said, "accepted." It is clearly audible. Additionally, they have the transcription with the same wording ("accepted").

[citation][nom]nirvanabah[/nom]Or, perhaps, you should: http://www.kirotv.com/news/22368799/detail.html."She did something out of trust. I suppose wanting to be accepted, loved. It was a mistake," Toni said.[/citation]
That version of the quote wasn't part of the original source as mentioned in the article, but we can update story above now that a more accurate quote is available.

This was not a case of not being able to copy a quote correctly; it was a case of there not being a perfect source to draw from. There is a difference.

At any rate, thanks for the link!

Here in the U.S of A, we have become a people who no longer wants to be held accountable for our own actions. [McDonalds makes us fat, etc, etc]
The girl is just plain IGNORANT of the fact that she put herself in this situation. She is embarrassed and now suddenly she becomes THE victim. She is a girl, not a defenseless human being. She took it upon herself to take a nude picture in an easily redistributable form. There is absolutely no victim in this case. Not the mother, girl, or BF. Let them learn a lesson by doing 100 hours of community service, and let that be the end of it.

I appreciate constructive help from people such as yourself. My eyebrows were raised at the "expected" bit too, as it did for the very first commenter to this article.

What really bothered me is when someone posts a comment making presumptions that those behind Tom's "can't even copy quotes correctly." We're all human here and we're working to the best of our ability with what we have on hand. What doesn't help is when our work is looked down upon and criticized unjustifiably.

Helpful comments are appreciated, but baseless assumptions are not.

Thanks for reading,

I disagree with unknown. A minor does not have a fully developed mind and is not at an age of willing consent, thus it is illegal for anyone at any age to distribute photos of a minor. There is really no discussion.

Just another example for lawyers to make money, While ruining the world.
How about introducing a stupidity/common sense law, Where YOU are responsible for your own actions,Can apply to bullshit workcover claims as well, Dickheads who deliberately spill a hot cup of coffee on themselves and sue Mc Donald's, The list is endless!
Ohh and don't get me started on Burglars tripping over and breaking a leg in your house, Then suing your arse and winning, I mean WTF is going on in the world?
As for parents, Hmmm what a joke in this day and age, Half of them shouldn't breed so we don't have this bullshit pop up, Maybe Governments around the globe can introduce a new legislation where you have to have an IQ over 100 before your allowed to have kids. sigh......

you did not seem to read the whole story. her mother said "she did it out of trust". that means she let her boyfriend take pictures of her because she loves him. she wanted to please her boyfriend.

prolly after having a petty quarrel, the boyfriend sent it to others "with the intention of harming her". he may be a 14 year old, but i guess he needs to be punished after doing that to a poor young girl.

To sum it all up, "child pornography" is an act. If you participate in producing and/or distributing it as a material possession, you are liable and should be prosecuted. There should be no gray area for man, women, and/or children.

You're right, there should be no gray area. Rewrite the law already and make an exemption.
The law should not be involved in punishing children as sex offenders for what is normal childhood behavior. Put a camera in a kids hands and what do you expect happens? They photograph their lives. Every bit of them, even the bits you personally disagree with.

If stupidity was illegal, the majority of you morons wouldn't dare post anything in these comment sections anywhere on the web. Seriously, you "blame-the-victim" types need to kill yourselves for humanities sake.
