Next week: FB troll pretends to be suicidal.

Something I find an interesting is that some people want to die because they have no control over their lives; the cure, intervene - throw them in a mental hospital for a couple of weeks(or until they stop telling the truth) and force meds down their throats. This of course cures the feeling of no control.

+1 for toms hardware/guide for caring. Yes, take notice. The only hard part is telling the difference between who is joking, who is having a bad day, and who is serious. The biggest problem is most of the people who commit suicide try and hide there feelings until the last few moments, then they might try to reach out, or they might not. Some of us are just dark naturally, and some are happy most of the time. The best thing to do is to try and notice "changes" in there normal behavior.

If you think someone is suicidal, then maybe it's time to try and hang out with them for awhile and try and take there mind off of it. Give them a little guidance.

Obviously, you can't save everyone.

Ha Ha Ha. Just chuck them in a mental hospital and throw meds down there throat? Sounds easy enough. It's easy to be sarcastic about things you know nothing about. I've been to a mental hospital, and it actually does help. And I've been on just about every anti-depressant you can name. Not funny to me though.

You think I haven't been there? Well I haven't tried every anti-depressant because I very quickly realized that they can't help.

Story:

Have issue and naively ask shrink for help - refuse the treatment because it wasn't that major - police turn up at my house and drag me to hospital - refuse to take medication and get held down and injected - shut up and relinquish freedom to get released - spend the next two years pretending to take medication because they imposed a "community order" on me.

Never lost coherence and I never even said I was going to hurt myself.

(BTW: Borrowed account)

Our question of the week is: Should we be more sensitive about people say in the public forum, be it aggressive or depressive?

While I think the humanistic gut response is "of course", I also have a nauseating feeling that this would translate to "walk on eggshells and post nothing that would hurt anyone's delicate sensibilities".

In other words, reconcile this one: say something about God that will not offend or insult a Christian, a Muslim, a Buddhist, a Satanist, an Atheist, and so forth. It is impossible.

In Why Apple Fans Hate Tech Reporters Tuan nicely pointed out that it is far too easy for a person to read into an article either a positive reinforcement or negative threat into what could be considered a neutral series of comments. In light of that nature of human psychology, I question whether so many comments are negative/aggressive or whether they are merely perceived as such by a negative/aggressive person.

However, I am also all for system where people are not granted anonymity for their comments. In other words, an IID (internet identification) that is used to positively identify a poster, might go a long way to restoring civility to the internet. Of course, like a newspaper I think a site should be allowed to allow a post to be anonymous (although the site must have a record of who the poster was in case law enforcement needs to get involved). ...wow, how oddly conservative of me - something I think I have been accused of being, um, never.

An unfortunate thing to happen, its hard to think positive and thats what this person lacked. I dont mean to mock him but to make a point, think positive and positive things will happen...has worked for me for years...or you can think negative and negative things will happen...that also works..if you are into that sort of thing.

The narcsissism that runs rampant through fourms, (including this one) has its impact on individuals who are going through periods of difficulty or have a "mental disability".

Should people be more sensitive? Yes, Will they be? No chance, this is only going to get worse.

@monkeh
I just googled "how to slash your wrists" as u did and the first line i get is this :
Tip: Save time by hitting the return key instead of clicking on "search"
loool

i hate it when relatives say stuff like 'he had everything going for him'.

obviously not. and its incredibly insulting to say that about someone who has just taken their own life.

at the end of the day though, i believe a person should have the rights to end their life if they wish too, though it would have been better for all involved if any of his so called family or friends had paid attention to his messages and made some attempt to console him.

I blame it on society and the unnecessary BS is forces down peoples throats and up the rear when it doesn't go down. I am my self am looking for a way out except through immigration before my nation becomes a Marxist dung heap and starts a third world war. It is getting very bad in my state and isn't at the bottom yet unlike California and Florida. No jobs, no life line, no past, no future, and nothing to lose. A college degree is only worth the paper it is printed on like the money in your pocket all which took no effort to print and created out of thin air. I am young and don't want to straddle my self with $100k in debt over some high end degree to only land some crappy office job and only be one job loss or illness away from sleeping in the car or in a cardboard box. The system here only emphasizes the bottom line while encouraging people to become bottom feeders. One job on the books to keep the scum bags in power paid off while the rest is off the books just to be able to eat. 39.5 million on food stamps and I am not one of them since I don't even get enough hours. I want to start my own company and decide my own future while helping others in their quest for a better life but nope every thing is monopolized and state controlled. I hope that I and the most of us live through it when it all blows up in our faces. To many have sat by and done nothing when there was a chance to at least complain. Now it is to late there is more scum in government than in the pen and on the streets. Thought gangs were horrible just take a look under that filthy rug that is corporate democracy, government agents peddling guns and drugs to explosives. Now they're up to yet another grand show to scare the people into giving up ever more in another war while at home it becomes a giant death factory, yum yum yum that delicious delight soylent green. Thought life couldn't get any worse think again I hope you like being chipped and herded on to train cars and being sold into slavery by bankers as they steal your children. Oh wait they already take peoples kids and trade them like commodities to pedophiles and when there just isn't enough to go around they go to places in eastern Europe or south America. The whole planet needs a good lesion in moral values since it lacks them at various levels globally. Like killing over a million in a Iraq and doing the same in Afghanistan. We probably killed half to two thirds as many people over the last 50 years as Hitler through war, abortions, simple lack of basic medical care which is on par with that of Mexico and Cuba while costing a life time of income. The only difference between the three one is that one accepts US dollars, the other Canadian dollars, and the last one Mexican pesos all trained in the US. Those in Europe cringe at the thought of ever coming here, hmmm nice junk says the TSA agent while boarding the plane.

I am a cop and you are a civilian lick dat boot boy!!! I want you to lick it this way and that way and lick it again and again till you are nice and dry. One more TIME civilian!! An hour goes by after being beaten to near death with riot sticks and kicked into the dirt by a squad of doughnut eating goop drinking scum bags. After all they killed my uncle after smearing him in the local papers and smeared him again before we could even arrange for a funeral.

Something else to consider in that line of thinking....not all of us are wired the same way. It's sometimes really hard for some of us to see all the positive things in life in general & they make medication that helps to resolve this. If it's never diagnosed, then it probably will not be treated either. This person most likely had help readily available, but any problems that were voiced were probably never taken seriously because of all the things they had going for them in life. Kinda makes having all the resources that are available a moot point when noone believes that there is a problem in the 1st place.

to Kill ones self??? Well I would never .... join facebook, or do myself in. Life to short to make it even shorter, but I know it can be hard in life. All I can say to that is... If life was easy then we all give up right away. Life is worth living, you just have to look hard enough. OK well I can't believe i just said that, but I do believe it.

no one rally knows what a suicidal person is thinking thru his writings..we may only perceived what he is thinking...but on his mind, its only that person knew when he's on that thin red line that differentiate life or death...i think what each and everyone of us could do is to show emphaty to those persons we knew with suicidal thoughts by encouraging them that life is not all that bad..it's God given and not for us to take.

Yep. This kind of stuff shouldn't be dealt with by the law. Friends, family and concerned citizens are the ones who should help people in this kind of need.

[citation][nom]zybch[/nom]So this guy would nicely fit the definition of "an hero" right? (look it up).[/citation]
Not quite, it no where stated he was a member of anonymous.

I actually have no intent of being more sensitive.
Life is a joke, so let's all just laugh along together and never take anything seriously.
Though someone I knew was saying they were considering suicide, so the local constable was informed. 😀
